Sir Not Appearing In This Film

Another good weekend down at the Cawthon Cartridge Club near College Station, TX!

We had 5 shooters show Saturday to help us celebrate our heritage. All of the shooters showed great improvement throughout the weekend. The shooters were not afraid to ask questions during instruction.

Ghostring, bollox, Tank5, Zboy74 and myself instructed.

With a high ratio of instructors to students instruction went pretty quick.

Saturday AM pics before the rain...

Ghostring presents a Brown Bess while telling the history known as the First Strike! How cool is that?

Rain arrived soon after lunch. Once I saw lighting we adjourned to the classroom area porch. We used the rain down time for more history and used a dummy rifle to instruct our shooters on sling use and positions individually.

Then it started raining sideways which got us wet while under the porch. OK, we'll head inside.

At one point late Saturday afternoon the rain diminished and we returned to the range. We had shooters shoot at squares while employing sitting and kneeling positions.

Then we posted an AQT and the heavy rain returned. (sigh). The soggy targets would not stay up.

We were not able to have the shooters do a Saturday PM hits count.

We adjourned for the day.

It was still a good Satuday.

Sunday March 8, 2026 was cooler and overcast all day. There was a fine mist but not quite raining initially. After lunch the misty rain got a little more wet but not enough to cause us to stop shooting.

Sunday a walk on shooter joined us – Jonathan - the son of James one of the pre-registered Saturday shooters. Bollox and myself gave Jonathan the expedited course on safety and course of fire. Bollox engineered sling attachments for Jonathan's rifle. Jonathan caught on VERY QUICKLY and was very safe!

We were able to shoot 5 AQTs total on Sunday!

It was a bit of a shock to get 3 Riflemen Sunday out of 6 shooters!

Shooter Michael has made Rifleman at least a few times before. I expected no less for him. His highest score was 232 approaching Distinguished (I had that patch in my pocket just in case...).

Shooter Jimmy made Rifleman scoring 222!

Jonathan was an absolute surprise. He had no prior Appleseed experience. He was at the Houston Livestock Show seeing Dwight Yoakum on Saturday. Jonathan not only made Rifleman (216) as a one day shooter with minimal and expedited instruction but he also is the only shooter at this event to CLEAN the Sunday PM Hits Count Target! Stunning!

Until next time – DRY FIRE!  :---

Lot's of weather this weekend!  IAO - sometimes those rain breaks full of dry fire/one-on-one position instructor works out quite well!
It's not about perfection -- it's about progress!!

I LOVE this stuff!

"Perhaps you and I have lived with this miracle too long to be properly appreciative. Freedom is a fragile thing and is never more than one generation away from extinction. It is not ours by inheritance; it must be fought for and defended constantly by each generation, for it comes only once to a people. Those who have known freedom and then lost it have never known it again" Ronald Reagan

Making a note of that rear sling attachment option. We had a rear stud split out of a plastic stock at an event and limped through using only a loop, but this is a great way to do a short term fix

Ditto - thanks for snapping a photo of that.

Happy to help! I was amazed when I saw it.

Bollox gets the credit. He's an engineer so... ^-^
