What a weekend with a great group of Appleseeders.  Monticello Sportsmen Club hosted Project Appleseed for a two-day Appleseed Clinic.  We had 9 participants and one almost participant for the weekend of which six were first time Appleseeders and another was a first time rifle participant.

Saturday morning hits count target showed we had some potential but a bit of work to do.  We got into the fundamentals of marksmanship in our teaching time and started working on implementing those fundamentals in our dry-fire periods throughout the morning.  Just before lunch we started shooting for groups at square targets and we saw really good groups from most of the line.  After lunch and learning how to zero our rifles we moved into transitions and then seated and finally standing position.  Late in the afternoon we hung our first AQT and demonstrated the improvements seen on the squares targets.  While the improvements were noted, we were not able to mint any new rifleman.

Sunday we had two participants not able to continue and another dropped out shortly after the start.  The rest worked on their skills and shot an AQT fresh before too many rounds were shot. We had our first rifleman scores of the weekend.  We then ran additional drills, AQTs, and fun shoots throughout the day.  We ended the day on Sunday with the following rifleman:

Tyler - 225 - new rifleman, first Appleseed event - wanted to take an Orange Hat, but needs another event
Nick - 215 - new rifleman, first Appleseed event - wanted to take an Orange Hat, but needs another event
Nicolas - 222* - new rifleman, first Appleseed event - age 11, off sandbags
Tim - 237 - requal - bolt action, scoped
Autumn - 235 - requal
Mathias - ? - requal

In addition to scoring rifleman, Tyler also cleared the Sunday morning hits count including cold bore shingle.

Ivan, another first time Appleseeder did well at the event.  We worked with him on some inconsistency he was seeing - turned out his eye glass positioning was impacting his aim.  After we replaced his cheater glasses with a non-magnified pair his groups got more consistent.  He topped out at 191.  Keep up the dry-fire practice and I'm sure we'll be handing you a rifleman patch soon.

Sam did well on Saturday and was unable to attend Sunday - keep up the work - persistence is key.

Cindy and Naomi - thank you for coming out.  I saw huge improvements in your abilities.  Keep up the practice and I hope to see you on the line next year.

Pictures to follow.

A big thank you for the awesome instructing / coaching this week to:
