Project Appleseed

Special thanks to the Beaver Valley Rifle and Pistol Club for hosting us for the umpteenth time.  They again donated their entire Rifle Range to us on Sunday and the Combat Range on Saturday, and were very helpful in all aspects of getting ready for the weekend at an Appleseed 200 yard RKD.  Big thank you to Anita, Lorin, Dale and Mark.  And we are headed back there again next year on June 21-22 for a 25m Rifle event and October 4-5 for another 200 yard RKD!  Huzza!

The weather was not so great both days – sunny but cold on Saturday and rainy and miserable on Sunday.  Four shooters could not join us, but we had a great weekend of marksmanship and heritage.   Only having a 50 yard range on Saturday, we covered all of the "Three Challenges of a Rifleman" that day, as well as discovering each shooter's Cold Bore shift and Turret Calibration.  We also were able to get our 50 yard DOPE and shoot both a 50 yard and 25 yard regular AQT.  It was again eye opening to see how big the AQT looked when you moved it up to 25 yards having just shot it at 50.  But Jessee wasn't fooled – he shot a 243 at 50 yards and a 248 at 25!  Huzza!  And we had several other shooters who scored Rifleman on the 25m AQT as well.

Sunday was for shooting – gathering DOPE at 100, 150 and 200 yards, as well as trying for Morgan's Shingle.  While no one hit the Shingle, many were very close, and I'm sure (?) the impact with the rain drops prevented some from scoring that patch.  Then it was on to 200 yard AQT's.  We managed to get in four of them before the cold and rain got to all of us early in the afternoon.  Three shooters scored Riflemen on the 200 yard RKD (Jessee, Ben and Chris), with Jessee shooting not only a Distinguished score, but a perfect 50!  With only 4 rounds outside of the 5 ring to boot!  HUZZA!!!

OK, the weekend wasn't awesome.  The weather was miserable.  But the companionship and the shooting was great.  Wearing glasses and a rainy scope got to me in the end, causing a bad headache.  but not before I shot score. As usual, great people, an awesome program and a good time.
