Fall had made it way to Idaho Falls last weekend, as they had their first hard frost of the season.  However, the days were bright and sunny and the students enthusiastically showed up for the event.

This was the first sold out at the Eagle Rock Gun School and Range.  I would like to thank to the owner and instructors at ERGSR for promoting this event and helping to make it one of the best events yet.

The students were all attentive during the marksmanship instruction and this showed in their progress throughout the weekend.  It always brings a smile to my face when I inspect the student's targets and they show that they are utilizing the techniques they have been taught.  It was especially enjoyable to watch a brand new rifle student go from putting up 10 MOA groups on Saturday morning, to shooting 2 MOA groups on Sunday afternoon.  This is one of the reasons I enjoy being an Appleseed instructor.

Congratulations to the new Rifleman; Kevin, Cassidy and Rich.  Kevin came to this event with a good skill set, and he shot repeated rifleman scores in the 220s and 230s.  Cassidy was brought to her event by her father, and she did not expect to shoot a rifleman score.  She absorbed the instruction put the techniques to work and earned her patch.  Rich was able to shoot a 210 and agreed to be baptized in the water of the North Bridge.  Huzzah, Huzzah, Huzzah.

Vern was able to requalify his rifleman score and shot AQTs with a Ruger 10/22 and a bolt action CZ rifle.  At the end of the event, Vern expressed the desire to become an IIT and help support AS in Eastern Idaho.  Thanks for stepping up!

Remember that persistence is characteristic of a rifleman.  If you did not earn your patch, practice the techniques you learned at home.  You can practice the fundamentals on the comfort of your living room carpet.  After you have perfected the techniques, come back to another event and show off your skills.

I am looking forward to seeing everyone at another Appleseed event.

Was a lot of fun, and blessed that the weather stayed nice this late in the year!

I learned so much about so many things. The historical perspective was very relevant, the skills are usable in all shooting situations, NPOA - may get tattooed on my forearm :)

Weather was awesome, instruction superb, classmates driven to improve.

I will be back again.
