Project Appleseed

The Deer Creek Conservation Club of Grant Country hosted Project Appleseed for a Rimfire KD and our thanks and appreciation go out to Gene for the use of their facility for the weekend.

15 shooters joined us for a weekend of history and marksmanship and what a group of shooters! This was the safest group of shooters I have encountered in my tenure as a Shoot Boss. Not only were they safe, they were attentive and teachable the entire weekend. As we were covering instructional topics prior to shooting, they seemed to know all the answers already. New information was absorbed and put to use quickly with positive results. I feel this a strong testament to the level of instruction each received at 25m events prior to this RKD. This reflects great credit upon the Indiana cadre! This was my first time working an event in Indiana and I hope not my last.

We opened Saturday with an opportunity to hit Morgan's Shingle and Kate, Scott and Hunter quickly showed their skills!

As we proceeded to get data on personal equipment using sighters the shooters got first-hand experience not only learning about trajectory and IMC at distances beyond 25M, they learned how to apply their skills using their equipment.

After the 1st AQT was done we had awesome results with 3 achieving Rifleman: Michael with 40, Basil with 46 and Bryan wowed us all with perfect 50 right out of the gate!

We ended Saturday a little early, but it was appreciated as the students used a lot of physical and mental energy.

Sunday saw all but one return for more marksmanship and history. Another attempt was given for Morgan's Shingle with William, Bryan, Hunter, Rick, Myrradah and Josh marking the shingle.

Continuing the theme of learning about their equipment, the shooters were briefed on using their sights to estimate range. Everyone was attentive since they witnessed how this skill is important when going to 200 yards on Saturday. After calibrating their sights the shoots performed expedient and more accurate RE. Then it was back to AQTs!

As the day wore on, the Shoot Boss was concerned about not having enough RKD tabs and Rifleman patches! That's a GREAT problem to have!

Sunday saw Michael score again with 45, Scott scored with 40 & 45, Jeremy scored 44, Hunter scored 41, 42, and 43 with a bolt rifle (!), Basil scored with 40 and 42, and Matt scored 44. All in all a great weekend with a great group of shooters! Special thanks to our guests that fired up a couple of pickups for the target line visits out to 150 and 200 yards. That saved valuable time and energy.

Even though not everyone qualified every shooter learned about their equipment and with the instruction received can continue to improve at their home range.

Many thanks to the Indiana cadre for welcoming me to their state. Geek and Jayshunnybunny helped us maintain a comfortable pace throughout the weekend with passionate and timely history breaks.

It was a great weekend! I learned so much and will be working on fine tuning everything you guys taught me then hopefully can make the paper @ 200.

What a great weekend.  Thank you to the range and ArmyVet for making the trip up to run the event.  I definitely made some new friends this weekend.  It was nice getting to see some folks from prior events too.  Below are the shots I was able to capture this weekend.

I had a good time and gained a lot of useful information. I had two goals this weekend. The main reason was learning all the stuff behind the firing line that gets talked about some at a regular 25 meter event. The other was to use my regular Appleseed rife to get data out to 200.  This was the first time I had taken it out to distance. The fun shoot of shooting a 25 meter target posted at 100 reinforced all the lessons taught at a 25 meter event. 

Thanks to all the instructors for providing a wealth of knowledge. It was very much appreciated.

It was a great weekend and I learned some new skills and reinforced the good habits. Katie-Did and I are looking forward to more shoots.

Part of the fun of volunteering is getting to meet everyone. It was great meeting everyone and hopefully will again soon.

I learned quite a bit from Armyvet.  It's always fun to work with a new shoot boss.  The students were great and so were my fellow instructors!
