I talked to all the SC instructors yesterday morning and everybody was alive and without major issues. 

I ran a chainsaw for 8 hours yesterday and  doing it today as well.  I'm beat.

Not sure about everybody else but I am not expecting power until Tuesday or thereabouts, but plenty of fuel for generator.

Western NC got hit hard! Most still without power or cell connections, most roads still closed, I-40 closed, downtown Asheville the worst flood since Revolutionary war times. Recovery might take years. Tornados touched down elsewhere, major damage northeast of Raleigh.

I'm in NW GA and got about 12 inches of rain.  My road was flooded for most of yesterday, but cleared by mid-afternoon.

Hey, NC peeps, has anyone heard from Tar Heel, Bolt, and Libero (and the rest of their family, of course)?

I think most roads are open except in the upstate near ga and NC border.  Some flooding in low lying areas.


Worst storm I have seen since Hugo in 89.

Our power was out for 36 hours and we're all set here with working power now. I tried to reach Saluda yesterday with roads completely closed in places, power lines down and some roads washed out. I turned around and headed back to Charlotte.
Also, lots of very long lines up there at any working gas stations getting fuel for cars and generators.

Folks,

I'm checking in by standing outside a library in Asheville for the only wifi around. It's a real mess here, but my family (including daughters Ella and Noe whom some of you know) and I are just fine. My house avoided any real damage. We have plenty of food and water and other comforts, and better off than a lot of people here. Running a city of around 100,000 people with no water or power is not a great way to go.

I am SO SO GRATEFUL for all the immediate messages I got from so many Appleseeders. Like, a LOT of messages. I have the first tears now thinking about it. I'll have more to write about this experience and how the lessons I've learned from this program have affected how I've reacted and reached out to others. And talk about IAO! And "a rifleman persists" has been a helpful mantra, though my daughters might be sick of it. They shipped out to TN to stay with family on mom's side for hot water and electric lights.

For now, though, there's close to 0 communication within Asheville or in or out. So you may not hear back for a while from me or others you know in this area. Much love, y'all!

The home range is in good shape, just a little drizzle during the KD event this past weekend on Sunday (10 minutes worth).
