Project Appleseed

What an awesome weekend!! We had twenty shooters on the line, almost half of which were under 18. It is SO encouraging to see young people showing up and getting involved in preserving their Liberty, and let me tell you, they could shoot as well! We asked everyone Saturday morning to give us a teachable attitude, and in exchange we would give them quality instruction. I have to say both sides of that bargain were upheld. Soggy conditions, mosquitoes, and loud trains during instructional blocks couldn't hold a candle to the energy, positive attitudes, encouragement, and focus from the students and instructors alike. The Three Strikes were told Saturday by 901Gun, Leadslinger66, and Guns&Hoses, which left Sunday open for some inspiring stories of Sybil Luddington, Elizabeth Zane, and that most dangerous of old men, Samuel Whittemore. We had 5 shooters requalify with marksman scores, including Brian and Mike who both requalified Distinguished, and an impressive 238 from Titus at his second Appleseed clinic! Over half a dozen of the shooters are "knocking on the door" of the Rifleman patch with scores in the high 190s and low 200s. Special mention to young Madelyn for absolutely ROCKING her single shot bolt action rifle smoothly and safely all weekend! Also a special thank you to all the parents who showed up and participated alongside their children, you are raising a generation that will help save this Country, I'm sure of it. The instructor cadre and range support were amazing as well, especially the crew that showed up Saturday morning JUST to set up the range...that was something I could get used to! (But I probably shouldn't!) 901Gun worked hard and tirelessly as the primary Red Hat instructor, giving very clear and concise instructional blocks and running her line like a Line Boss should. Our two IITs, SavvySteve and Mustang were indispensable as well. Mustang coordinated the setup crew and range relations, and SavvySteve was always right there whenever something needed done, whether it was modeling, instructing, or just acting as a tripod for a dry erase board. Our AppleCore volunteer Brian made it in Sunday to not only give some outstanding admin support, but shoot the high score of the weekend in between tasks! Special thanks to the Memphis Sports Shooting Association for the wonderful range and support, and especially to Leadslinger66 for driving all the way from Georgia through a literal hurricane to come be the SB for the event.

It was a great weekend at the range. As Guns & Hoses mentioned, we had a lot of youth shooters. That was fantastic . We also had 4 lady shooters. It's always good to see more ladies on the firing line. We saw a lot of improvement from the shooters throughout the weekend as well as an enthusiastic response to the shared history.
It's great when experienced folks like Leadslinger66 and Guns & Hoses travel from out of state to help support and lead. We appreciate it!
