The Deer Creek Conservation Club is such a great venue, big supporter of Appleseed and has some genuinely nice people.  That was on full display this weekend as we had our 2nd pistol event at the club.

8 patriots showed up (with the long distance award going to Zach and Ashley who drove in from Saint Louis ~6 hrs) and we braved the 95-100 deg+ heat index to develop some pistol marksmanship skills and have great discussions on our shared American heritage.

Saturday saw us do some deep focus on fundamentals, with lots of interim dry fire and drills to reinforce them.  Welcome were breaks where we discussed the 3 strikes of the match with lots of great audience participation.  We ended the day with a practice PQT but everyone was pretty beat up from the heat and humidity (although we did go through 5 gallons of ice water in addition to what everyone else brought).

Sunday morning was fast paced and reviewed those fundmentals and started cracking out PQTs.  Quickly, Greene showed us he had taken the instruction to heart.  We retreated to the clubhouse and air conditioning at lunch...good thing too because a line of severe thunderstorms swept through and kept us pinned there for several hours.  No matter -- we discussed Sam and Sam and handled examples of a Walker, 1851 Navy, 1860 Army with Richards conversion, 1873 SAA, Schofield, M1917 and M1911.  We also discussed holster and pistol selection with lots of great example pieces brought by our instructors.

At 3:30pm, we got back to it after picking up all the target stands, canopies and other detritus, the PQTs came hot and heavy.  Soon, Mike and Cherie had scored.  Russ, Zach and Ashley all showed significant improvement and are getting close.  Gene, Wacker and Brianna are building those skills and we look forward to seeing them again.

All in all...a fantastic shoot.  Oh...and...Ashley took an Orange Hat...say hi to SassyStance!

We had a great weekend at Deer Creek.  This club is a tremendous supporter of our programs and mission.  Everyone had a lot of fun and were very safe.  The scores all consistently improved.  Having my partner in Appleseed make Pistoleerâ„¢ score was the highlight for me.  It was great adding to our ranks as well.  Thank you to those that volunteered to help Appleseed and save this country.  Congratulations to everyone that persevered in the face of poor weather too.  Below is a link to the pictures I was able to get.

"This country has been made by the Timothy Murphys, the men in the ranks. Conditions here called for qualities of heart and hand that Tim Murphy had in abundance. Our histories should tell us more about the men in the ranks, for it was to them, more than to the generals that we were indebted for our military victories." -  Franklin Delano Roosevelt, as New York Governor, 1929, at the dedication of the memorial to Murphy

Looks like a great event!  I'm impressed that you were able to bear the heat.  Congrats to those who scored and everyone who made progress.
It's not about perfection -- it's about progress!!

I LOVE this stuff!

"Perhaps you and I have lived with this miracle too long to be properly appreciative. Freedom is a fragile thing and is never more than one generation away from extinction. It is not ours by inheritance; it must be fought for and defended constantly by each generation, for it comes only once to a people. Those who have known freedom and then lost it have never known it again" Ronald Reagan
