Thirteen shooters braved the threat of high winds and rain to come to Mt Top range in McMinnville TN to accept the challenge of shooting an RKD.

After Maximum Ordinate gave his Chicken Soup for Rifleman talk, Ross reviewed IMC and ArmyVet taught trajectory for 22LR.

The wind conspired with Morgans shingle to make sure everyone was a cook.

The wind did not disappoint, we went to lunch early before shooting Stage 3 as the wind was so strong it broke one of the posts holding up a target backer and we were struggling to keep the target backers from becoming sails.

Ross presented history during lunch and talked about how to adjust for the wind. Maximum Ordinate gave some additional pro tips for the wind.

The wind calmed significantly after wind. According to the Kestrel it calmed to a steady 11mph, with gusts of 18mph. Unfortunately the SB failed to measure wind speeds before lunch.

At days end, BooneyStomper and Special_K both qualified with a 41, Ross requalified with a 43. Calob and Adam both shot a 41 followed by a 43. HUZZAH.

After the AQTs were over, tennessee hangfire grilled hamburgers and hot dogs. Upacreek brought a large spread of food, including a Unicorn birthday cake for Wileycoyote. Happy Birthday Wiley. Shooters and instructors alike, enjoyed great food fellowship into the early evening.

Thanks to Mt Top range for letting us use their facility and to all the instructors and students that made this event a sucsess.

Awesome day ,glad to spend time with you.
I have come here to chew gum and teach riflemen the art of shooting one hole groups and I'm all out of bubblegum.

Do you ever change to a new rifle thinking it will make you better?

What a great day with friends! Thank you to Cleveland for your leadership and all the Instructors who worked hard to put on an RKD in gale-force winds. Mountain Top proved its name and as always were extremely gracious hosts.

McMinnville was awesome!!!  Just a tiny bit of wind.  I wish I took more pictures to capture the day better.  The shooters did so good and hopefully learned as much as I did.  The tiny bit of wind whipped everything around.  I wish I thought to get a picture of the target stakes that snapped from the wind.  The younger shooters were nearly introduced to the fun of lawn darts as they walked the targets from one distance to the next.

Cleveland's idea to have a BBQ afterward was great.  New shooters and volunteers, you guys all feel like family after every event and it's a lot of fun to hang out with you.  I'm sorry all of you couldn't stay.  Thanks a lot for cooking the food, TN Hangfire!  I'm sorry you couldn't shoot more.  MountainTop Range is a fantastic host.  Thanks!

Wileycoyote kicks a shooter???  Either that or he's stepping over James as they each took their turn trying to hit Morgan's Shingle.  Since James stayed with us for the BBQ, I'm guessing the latter.

Father and son quality time - Jeff and Adam.  Seeing families shoot together makes me  ;D

DrewBob did great today

James and Brad look good shooting in the prone position

Roswell takes a shot before he's blown away by the wind.  He didn't sizzle from the hot brass, but he took the brunt of the wind whipping through being on the end.  Thanks, Roswell.

Prone shooting when the mats aren't blowing into their faces. One of the volunteers had the genius idea to use the broken stakes to stake the mats down.

Mother and daughter bonding - Shannon and Special K shoot next to each other.  I don't think you can find a nicer family than these guys (Maximum Effort is volunteering somewhere on the line)  They're so encouraging and helpful.  Simon needs to come with you next time.

Old Navy Doc shot great all weekend.  We missed you at the BBQ.

Army Vet looks to be in deep thought as he coaches.

It's a bird! It's a plane!  It's SuperRick!  It drizzled a little during the day and any of us wearing our rain ponchos looked as if we were wearing capes.

BooneyStomper takes home a RKD Rifleman patch - Congratulations!

Calob receives a patch for one of his many Riflemen scores.  Ho hum - this is easy, right? (NOT!) Congrats!

Adam receives a patch for one of his many Riflemen scores as well.  It's not easy, but they make it seem that way.

Roswell represents GA well - he shot a 43 and earned his Riflemen's patch - congrats!

Woohoo!  Everyone's favorite instructor, Special K, earned her RKD Rifleman's patch with a 41.  Shooting in the wind is no joke.  Nice shooting everyone.

WileyCoyote - the guy who can fix and do anything, brings everything to shoots, and is just a great person has a big birthday this week.  Happy, happy birthday!!!   :birthday:

DrewBob

I really enjoyed this shoot. Awesome bunch of instructors who helped me identify several areas that I need to improve. Can't wait for the next one. Thanks Cleveland for the opportunity and Wiley coyote for the use of a rifle.

ArmyVet

This was a great event and sufficiently challenging for our shooters. The cook out after was awesome! For those that are not familiar with Mountain Top, it is 30 minutes away from anything and it seems every instructor goes in a different direction to get home.

If you earn your RKD at Mountain Top, you worked for it. It doesn't have the nickname "WeatherTop" for nothing!

Great Job all! Great bunch of tn. and Ga. Instructors on hand.

special_K

Had lots of fun this weekend! It was a fun change to be able to shoot. Happy birthday to my very favorite accessorizer, WileyCoyote!  :partytime:

Old Navy Doc

This is truly a wonderful test of our marksmanship skills. Thanks to all the instructors for teaching this the most challenging of all the Appleseed courses. I had a wonderful time and look forward to improving.
