This weekend, we kicked off Colorado's first pistol event of the year at Skyline Hunting and Fishing Club in Denver! We greatly appreciate the support of Skyline Hunting and Fishing Club in hosting our events. With some shaky spring weather leading up to this event, it looked like it could have been a dreary weekend, but on Saturday morning, the rain moved out and we had beautiful weather all weekend!

We moved quickly through instruction on day 1 as everyone on the line was shooting well. We reviewed grip and stance, 6 steps of firing the shot and NPOA and worked on fundamentals in the morning. We talked targets and covered magazine changes and honed the fundamentals before lunch. Groups were already shrinking by this point.

We heard riveting recounts of the events of April 19th, 1775 over lunch and jumped right back to controlled pairs, target transitions and one handed shooting. We introduced some time pressure and everyone felt like they needed some more practice to build the muscle memory for the additional pressure, so we did more one handed shooting, slow fire practice and timed controlled pairs. At that point everyone was feeling confident, so we posted the first PQT of the weekend! As the dust settled from it, our first Pistoleer™ of the weekend emerged! Dave finished PQT 1 with a very respectable 227! We had time since everyone took so well to the instruction, so we shot another PQT! Everyone walked away from day 1 feeling like improvements were made, and everyone was excited to get back to it on day 2.

We returned to an even nicer day on Sunday. After a quick review of the fundamentals in the morning, we got back to PQTs before lunch. We had another Pistoleer™ before lunch! Over lunch we were regaled with stores of dangerous old men and the story of Sam and Sam. As a special treat after lunch, Bravhrt gave us some additional history of the .44 magnum revolver and showed us the beautiful example which he had with him. He gave all the students a chance to shoot it! After some instruction on revolver grip and stance, some courageous volunteers tackled taming the beast. Everyone was right on target and it really demonstrated that with good fundamentals, you can be accurate with all different types of pistols! Thanks to Bravhrt for giving everyone that special opportunity. After lunch we shot several more PQTs, did target acquisition drills and played some games. The last PQT of the afternoon, we had another Pistoleer™! Beth proved she knew very well what she was about, shooting a score of 211! Thanks to all of our shooters for spending the weekend with us. It was a pleasure shooting with you all. The amount of improvement everyone made over the course of the weekend was impressive and I hope you all enjoyed it as much as the instructors did. We also appreciate your attention to safety over the course of the weekend.

Many thanks to our team of instructors: Zuke, flux and bravhrt for making this event happen. It was a great weekend!

This was a very good group of shooters, all demonstrating continuous improvement over the course of the weekend.
Their close attention to instruction and high regard for safety allowed us to beat the time monkey like a rented mule.

Kudos to our three new Pistoleer™s. To the other shooters, several of whom were only two shots away from earning a patch: Persist!

Tickets are still available for the upcoming Pistol Clinics at Pikes Peak Gun Club on July 8th & 9th and Ben Lomond Gun Club on August 12th & 13th.

As always, thanks to Skyline HFC for the use of their outstanding facility. And to SB Lead Sled for running a great shoot.

Lastly, it was my pleasure to allow the class to "test drive" the awesome S&W 29. It made my day. ;)
