Patriots' Day came after a week of RBC in Palm Bay this year. This was our once-a-year opportunity to hold our clinic in a center-fire bay at Port Malabar Rifle & Pistol Club. Our host is very supportive of our program. The weather was perfect if scorching heat is your thing. Clear, sunny, and only rained on Sunday after our memorial volley.

The 21 students were a mix of brand new shooters with old hands who have scored before. After extensive instruction and dry fire, we shot our first squares target at 11:30. Time for lunch and the second strike then back to shooting and more drills. By the end of the day, we saw one student qualified as Rifleman. The other scores ranged from 75 to 201. That left plenty of room for improvement on Sunday. Bob M. cleared the Redcoat/Hits Count Target. HUZZAH!

After a good night's rest to allow the brain to assimilate what the students experienced on Saturday the scores rapidly rose. By the end of the day, we saw five Riflemen--two new and three requalification's. Bobby, Kelly, Kurt, John, and Bob M. were our student Riflemen for the weekend. HUZZAH!

Among the others, were 2 junior shooters that persevered throughout the weekend. Several shooters were Sharpshooters and hot on the trail and others were less than ten points from the Patch. Next time! Excellent improvement by all!

Coming off an RBC, we had 4 new Orange hats join us as well as a Blue hat.

We ended the day Sunday with the solemn Memorial Volley for our fallen Patriot founders. It was an awesome weekend with new and old friends and lots of laughs and good fellowship.

One item Earl forgot to mention is he tested for promotion to Shootboss. He passed! Great job by Earl and all the Instructors. The students were always engaged and showed they love Liberty and marksmanship.

"A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball, and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be your constant companion of your walks." - Thomas Jefferson, letter to Peter Carr, August 19, 1785

The Second Amendment is a doomsday provision, one designed for those exceptionally rare circumstances where all other rights have failed -- where the government refuses to stand for reelection and silences those who protest; where courts have lost the courage to oppose, or can find no one to enforce their decrees. However improbable these contingencies may seem today, facing them unprepared is a mistake a free people get to make only once.

-- Justice Alex Kozinski, US 9th Circuit Court, 2003
