Project Appleseed

We had nearly 20 shooters from all over the state join us for a gorgeous weekend.  We had a great group of shooters that started with already solid fundamentals so the instructors got to spend their time helping hone and polish shooters' skills. 

We had five new rifleman  over the weekend and two requals.  We had a number of other shooters knocking on the door and shooting high 190s low 200s. 

I want to thank the WMFGA Range and Paul for hosting us, and also thank Laxgolf, Slainte, Eert, Kjell and AlarmLister for coming out to instruct with me.  Couldn't have done it without you.

Hope to see all of you on the line again soon!

What an event. I heard about all the great things that happened and it is seen in the AAR. I'm excited by the progress of all the shooters and feel I need to make the journey for the next winterseed..

What a fantastic weekend!!!  We could not have asked for a nicer weekend.  Many thanks to our shooters for their attentiveness and desire to improve.  Everyone knew very much what they where about.
A great big shout out to the Missoula instructor team for such a warm welcome to this wayward Son of Montana and making me feel immediately like part of the team.
Really looking forward to possibly flying back again and maybe getting a Winterseed in.  May have to bring a few Florida folks with me and see how they do <grin>!!
Again, congratulations to our new Rifleman for making patch and everyone for the massive improvement they had.

Huge shoutout to all of the instructors!  This was a fantastic first Appleseed experience for me and I couldn't have wished for anything better!  The weather was perfect, instructors were all top notch and extremely helpful, and I literally watched my groups shrink tremendously in just a few hours.   It was a great weekend to drive up from Townsend.

This may have been my first but it won't be my last (looking at you KD!)  Maybe I'll take another 25yd shoot only this time with open sights... big maybe on that

I am so glad I made the drive over to Missoula to help out at this shoot.  It had been a while since I've had this much fun at a shoot! Seven RM out of 20 students, and many with more than respectable scores.  I haven't seen that kind of success in years.  Congratulations to all the new and repeat Rifleman.  HUZZAH! Josh is was cool to see you still shooting at AS events.  Think about taking up that Orange Hat buddy.   

I look forward to more Instructor trips to Missoula.  Count me in for the Winterseed Shoot.

This was my first Appleseed, and it was a great experience. I twisted my knee, skinned an elbow, and got a few hot shells to the back - and I wouldn't trade the experience for anything. Huge respect to all the instructors and to Peter for all of the solid information and top-class teaching. You all set the bar VERY high.

Impressive shooting by everyone there too. I was blown away how much everyone improved and how solid people were shooting Sunday. Definitely lit a fire to get focused and enjoy the moment.

Thank you to all the shooters for making it a great, safe shoot!  Our largest yet in Missoula. Thank you to our visiting instructors, we couldn't have done it without you! It was great meeting and working with you.

This was a great shoot and it was good to see so many shooters working at improvement -- and making those improvements.  Thank you to Eert and Alarm Lister for making the trip to help our local crew, you guys were fantastic!

Congratulations to all who attended and learned something, and congratulations to those who earned or requal'd on Rifleman.

If you shooters would indulge this new Instructor-in-Training, I'd just like to suggest that you work on your skills with dry fire, and try to occasionally do live fire confirmation of what improvements you're making.  I've seen it in my own shooting -- the value of dry fire. 

Practice getting your sights on target with a stable precise sight picture, and then give that smooooooth easygoing trigger press.  When the trigger breaks, look at how much your sights move away from your target, and in what direction.  We taught you about how breathing, muscled/artificial NPOA, and elbow position in prone all can cause up/down or diagonal deviation in your target's spoken results.  The same notions apply to how your trigger press disturbs your sight picture in dry fire.

It's worth the effort.  This was how I went from 180s my first Appleseed, to Rifleman the next time, some 6 months later.
