Early weather reports of a rainy weekend failed to materialize and we stayed dry for the weekend at the Erie County Conservation League outside Sandusky, Ohio.

We started Saturday morning with the normal welcome, introductions and moved on to the safety briefing. Rifles were brought to the line and the Saturday morning Red Coat was shot.  Results showed we had some work to do. We had 6 of 12 shooters good at 100, 4 at 200, 4 at 300, 1 at 400, and 4 joined Daniel Morgan. One person cleared the target. Congratulations to Alan on getting his Ohio patch.

We moved on to the steady hold factors in prone, followed by the six steps and NPOA instructions.  Related drills were shot in between the points of instruction and from the first groups shot the squares target, it was evident we had a very special group of potential riflemen and riflewomen.  After the the IMC presentation on how to adjust sights we broke for lunch and the First Strike by the Shoot Boss.
.
After lunch we shot confirming groups and moved on to the steady hold factors in seated which were followed by related drills. The Second Strike was presented by Charley at the afternoon break.

This was followed by presentation of the standing steady hold factors with the afternoon Red Coat. The Saturday afternoon Red Coat had results which showed improvement over the morning effort.  Of the 12 shooters, we had 10 at 100, 5 at 200, 2 at 300, 1 at 400 and 3 joined Daniel Morgan. We had 1 person clear the target - Congratulations to Brad on earning his Ohio patch.

This was followed by the Third Strike and the Saturday call to Action.

Sunday started overcast and cooler, with chances of rain during the day. We started the day with a review of the safety rules and the POI's from Saturday. Since we can't start shooting before 10 am on Sunday we performed a demonstration of tips to help the shooters maximize their AQT's as well as a moment of silence for those victims of 911.  Rifles were brought to the line and the Sunday morning Red Coat was shot.  It was very encouraging.  Usually there is a little drop on Sunday morning but this group knew very well what they were about. We had 9 of 10 at 100, 5 at 200, 4 at 300, 2 at 400, 3 joining Daniel Morgan's crew and 1 cleared Redcoat. Congratulations to Alan (again).

We confirmed zero's from the day before and performed some NPOA drills, followed by a practice AQT and then broke for lunch with the Shoot Boss giving the KD lecture.

We shot 3 AQT's for score after lunch with Alan requalifying with a 211 and an outstanding score 236. We crowned 1 new rifleman - Jerry who scored the obligatory 210 and was promptly baptized with the waters of the North Bridge. To prove it wasn't a fluke, he also scored a 220 later in the afternoon.

Because of the heat and humidity, DOM's were presented in between each AQT to allow the shooters to rest and hydrate.

A fun shoot with a team event was thrown in to break up the grind. We had 3 teams of 3 (Revere, Dawes and Warren). Each member of each team was given 2 minutes to put their 10 rounds into a 100 yd. rimfire target. The results were very close. Team Revere with a score of 138 out of a possible 150, team Dawes with a score of 140 and congratulations to team Warren who scored an impressive 145 out of 150. Great job by all of our shooters.

We shot 1 more AQT for score and then finished with the Sunday afternoon Redcoat.  We had 7 of 9 at 100, 6 at 200, 3 at 300, 2 at 400, and 4 joined Daniel Morgan. We had 1 shooter clear the target and that was Alan who had previously cleared the morning Redcoat and was awarded the Double Redcoat patch. Great shooting!

Youth awards were presented to Lenny and also 10 event Appleseed pins to Slowbutsure and Aliquippa. Congratulations to all.

I want to thank the Erie County Conservation League for allowing Appleseed access to their fabulous facility. Without clubs like these, we have no program. Also, I would like to thank my instructors Meadow, Codebook, Slowbutsure and Aliquippa.
