Project Appleseed

Sacramento, CA  March 26-27
Wonderful spring weather for this event.
12 folks on the line, one 14 and one 10.  This was a very focused group.  They took notes.  Lots of notes.  Very impressive. 
Saturday, there were a few who didn't have much experience, but after a while you really couldn't tell.  Groups got smaller.  Positions improved as the day went on.  We got one AQT in on Saturday.  Luke decided that that was his AQT….scored a 231!!!!
Sunday, folks just really focused on getting those groups as small as possible…It was impressive to see the focus even on the two youth. 
Evan, age 10, turned in an impressive 157 late in the day with some wonderful groups!! Truly some impressive improvement and focus.  Thomas, age 14, did an amazing job as well. 
While no one scored Rifleman on Sunday, there were some very nice scores…several over 200, soooo close. Quite a few in the 180's-190's. 
I hope to see everyone out again, I still have Rifleman patches…

Congrats to Vinnie, who with a new rifle, scored 231 in response to someone saying, "I'd like to see one of you instructors show us how it's done."  And that folks is how it's done. 
Oh yeah…the book is Paul Revere's Ride by David Hackett-Fischer.  There is a second book by the same author called Washington's Crossing.  Both are excellent books.

I had a great time and left determined to come back with a scope as my eyes just aren't up to the task with Irons sites...

I booked for the next one within the week.

Lessons learned from my first Appleseed experience:

Spend more on kneepads and shooting mat, the cheap ones just didn't cut it.
Follow the process, it works.
Work on smooth, clean mag changes, that leaves plenty of time for shooting.

Plans have changed though, coming back again with irons after getting many more rounds down range and learning to trust the NPOA.  Groups with all my rifles have improved and I need to qualify with Irons at least once!
