After the untimely death of our beloved Smoakingun, the events at the Smoak family range were put on hold as we recovered from the tragic loss of our dear friend. But we knew how Smoak would have wanted us to continue teaching to the organizations that he held in high regard. So when we were asked to do an Appleseed for the local chapter of Trail Life boys and Heritage girls, we jumped at the opportunity to sustain his legacy. On this beautiful sunny Saturday we had a full line with 10 students, ranging from 13 to 55 years of age. Yes, we had both kids and their parents there for a time of learning and practicing the fine art of rifle marksmanship! The initial Redcoat target showed we had much room for improvement and improvement certainly ensued. While there were no new Rifleman revealed during this one day shoot, there was bucket loads of advancement and the final Redcoat tally showed that our instructors were richly paid.

We had some great instructors who did a superb job passing on the traditions of marksmanship and history to this group of (mostly) beginning shooters, who soaked up the deluge of information greedily. By the end of this short day the high score was a respectable 183 and everyone made remarkable progress.

I must express my profound gratitude to Christi and the Smoak family for the use of their property and their continued support of Project Appleseed. Many kudos to our intrepid instructors who came out to share the wealth of the knowledge and expertise. You guys rock!
