For anyone interested in a comparison of some of the web slings currently being offered....

Here are, from top to bottom, slings as currently being advertised:
Web sling as supplied by CMP with my M1 Garand.
Current offering from DPMS
M16A2 black nylon
M14 green nylon
Cheaper Than Dirt day desert cotton (FSN:1005-654-4058, SANDCO MFG CO.)

The CTD sling feels the same as the CMP web sling. The M14 nylon is a heavier web than the M16A2 nylon. The DPMS is the lightest of all.

Here is a comparison of the hardware From left to right:
M14, M16A2, DPMS

The M14 & M16A2 hardware are equal with the M14 having a slightly lighter finish. The DPMS hardware is
a much lighter gauge of metal, has no texture to hold the sling and generally is lower quality. The CTD hardware is comparable to that on the M14 and M16A2 sling.

My preference is for the M14 sling first, followed by the M16A2 or CTD.  The DPMS sling is my last choice but is
probably fine for use on a 10/22.

The DPMS was least expensive at $7, The M16A2 was $9, the M14 was $11 and CTD was $12.

When I use a web sling on my AR15 I use a hook at both ends so I can disconnect the sling from the rifle
and leave it on my arm between stages.

Hope this was helpful.

Interesting information. Good to guide future riflemen in sling choice.

No surprise that military equipment is usually better than aftermarket...
