We had a great Appleseed at Meeker Sportsman Center near Marion, OH this past weekend.  We had seven shooters show up Saturday morning looking to work on their skills.

We started the weekend with a welcome, introduction to the goals of RWVA and Project Appleseed, and our normal safety briefing.  This was followed by bringing rifles to the line and we started the event with the Sat morning Red Coat.
Results were promising.  We had six of seven put three rounds in the 100 yd target, 2 at 200, 1 at 300, three joined Daniel Morgan, and we had 1 cleared Red Coat.  The cleared Red Coat was accomplished by one of our youth shooters.  Huzzah!  She received an Ohio Appleseed patch for clearing a Red Coat enjoyed the congratulations of her mother and her grandfather who are both IIT's and were working the event.

We moved to the points of instruction (POI).  The steady hold factors in prone were presented followed by the six steps and NPOA.  Drills were shot after each POI and in late morning, we were able to move to the IMC (Inches-Minutes-Clicks) presentation.  Sight adjustments were calculated by the shooters and applied to their rifles.  Our first confirmation groups were shot and we broke for lunch.

After presentation of the First Strike at lunch, we returned to the line to make a second set of sight adjustments and to shoot confirmation groups.

We then moved to the steady hold factors in seated followed by shooting drills.  The Second Strike was presented at the afternoon break and we moved on to the steady hold factors in standing.  Drills were shot and we ended the day with a practice AQT and the afternoon Red Coat.

Improvement was clearly shown.  We had 8 of 8 at 100, 6 of 8 at 200, 5 of 8 at 300 and 3 of 8 at 400.  We had three folks join Daniel Morgan and we had another cleared Red Coat.  The day ended with a great third strike presented by ThomasF followed by a call to action by Corvette.

Sunday dawned overcast  and all the shooters returned for day two.  The morning Red Coat showed good results and after an NPOA drill , we moved to the AQTs.

We shot four AQT's that morning and the Rifleman corp gained a number of new members.  Joe N. was our first new Rifleman with a 212.  He followed it with scores of 225 and 226.  Tom was next with a 210 (yes, he got baptized with water from the North Bridge) which he followed with a 211.  Several of our instructors got the opportunity to shoot an AQT and they showed their stuff.  ThomasF, AKA Melissa and Joe K posted qualifying scores.

We had a KD lecture at lunch and shot the Sunday afternoon Red Coat. Results were consistent with the prior three and in mid-afternoon, we broke down the 25 meter line to start working at distance.  Shooters and Instructors brought a wide selection of rifles to the line to work on their skills at distance.

We had steel targets posted at 200, 300 and 400 yards.  Also full size targets were posted at all these distances for shooters to work with. Some of our instructors brought historical rifles to the line and shooters took advantage of opportunity to shoot a 1903 Springfield, an M1 Garand.

We closed the event with another call to action.

My thanks to the shooters for having a safe event and to the Instructors (ThomasF, Black_Bird, AKA Melissa, and Meadow) that helped with the event.   Also, my thanks to the Meeker Sportsman Club for hosting us again.

Always nice to be able to integrate some full-distance fun at a rimfire shoot! And nice that you guys had a chance to play with some older rifles.

Thanks for running another great event! I was surprised and happy to see so many instructors show up and then get the opportunity to get in a whole lot of practice! I certainly needed it, it's been a long 2020 so far!

My son and I had a great time in Marion.  It was our second shoot.  I was really glad to be able to shoot well enough for my Rifleman patch!   Feels good to finally break that score!  Thanks again to all the instructors and for all that you do!
