Project Appleseed

  Appleseed returned to the Northwest Ct Sportsman's Assn for another hot-humid-hazy northeast weekend. A dozen shooters made the effort to get some rifle marksmanship fundamentals and a good dose of our American Heritage in.

The SHF's, 6 steps to fire a shot and other standard Rifleman capabilities were taught, with a break for lunch and the first strike. More work on sitting and standing positions and the 2nd strike by Mwolf.  Like most other events there were the various malfunctions or loose sights and screws that take a little time to find. Things were finalized with an AQT near the end of the day and the 3rd strike.

Sunday started with a redcoat and then the AQT grind. And grind it was, even with moving the lines closer to the range cover for some shade, which diminished by noon to none. At least the shade was a little closer and made for a more comfortable 2nd day.

Joey, a younger trying hard rifleman made it in the afternoon with a score of 212, after swapping uppers and rifles a couple times. Other notables who did much better thru the day and showed it were Charles with a 207, Will 206, Adam 194 and Chris with a 192. Rachel showed immense improvement from the start of the day also.


The IT crew of Parallax, Mwolf and scout74 made things go well with extra effort on explaining use of the sling, finer points on positions and whatever else was noticed while the shooters applied their instruction throughout the weekend. I know the shooters appreciated the extra effort that was put in. Thank you gentlemen.

Thanks to the shooters who did manage to stay on course. It's always challenging when the heat turns up but did little to slow the group down.

A big thank you to the NWCSA for use of the range and facilities, including the club grill and archery course for camping. It made for a great weekend. I believe it was 11 years from this weekend that the first event was held at NW and they have always been a solid supporter for Appleseed in Ct.
