Do Ruger 10/22 mags need to be broken in?

Question Mark Mike

By that, I mean should you load your new magazines to full capacity and let them sit of a few days to break them in? Or does that just induce wear on the mag spring?

I never have.  But I always check new magazines to make sure they will drop free when empty.  Sometimes they need a bit of sanding at the edges if they are sticky.  The clear magazines seem most prone to hanging up as they are just slightly larger in dimensions.

No need to do anything to the mag under normal circumstances. I recently saw an incident in which the feed lips appeared to have a burr which caused feed errors. A quick polishing of the edges cured it.

After a few thousand rounds, the mag may become sluggish as soot accumulates inside it. The Ruger owner's manual says to dunk it in some solvent and blow it dry, but that's a poor way of cleaning. Disassembling the magazine for a proper cleaning is very easy. When reassembling, do not lube anything. All the moving parts are plastic and they are self-lubricating.

I wondered the same thing about these rotary magazines - whether they would need break-in. I just received my first 10/22 with four new mags. These were the worse mags I ever attempted to load. I wondered if the spring was tight and they needed to be broken-in. I ordered this Maglula 10/22 speed-loader and unloader to improve process and save my thumb ....  it has good reviews https://www.amazon.com/Maglula-Ruger-Magazine-Loader-Unloader/dp/B07NPYQGMW/ref=sr_1_1?crid=54BO7TYPYMT1&keywords=maglula+10%2F22+loader%2Funloader&qid=1565835122&s=sporting-goods&sprefix=maglula+10%2F%2Csporting%2C206&sr=1-1
