Even though this is likley targeted to the NSSF Rimfire Challenge, this set up would be an awesome optics-ready Appleseed machine.  Has pretty much every "upgrade" many make to their rifles if they want something other than a bone stock rifle.  If only there was an adjustable length of pull...

That's pretty nice.

Except for the price.  I spent less to completely set up a CZ 452 Varmint, and yes it's a bolt action, but it shreds AQTs...  it owns the highest AQT score for a loaner rifle I've ever seen (236).  Anyway, well thought out, but it'll have a lot of competition.

Might try asking Ruger to add rifle to Instructor Purchase sheet for 2019 (or 20...).

in current configuration, believe would be illegal to sell in NYS unless flash-hider was removed...NY "Safe" Act, ironically enough...

I think that Ruger's offering is not quite as good as the solution I came up with for quite a bit less money.

Ruger 10/22 Carbine any model.
Magpul X22 Hunter Stock with adjustable LOP and different Cheek Riser capability.  Free Float barrel.
Extended Rail that appears to be longer than Ruger's offering on this model.  And I am using all of that extension.
Ruger BX Trigger
Auto Bolt Release
1.25 inch swivels with GI Sling
Vortex Diamondback 2-7x Rimfire scope
Rings for above.

That rifle with any quality non-match grade ammo is more than accurate enough for AQT's.
Fits me better with extended LOP.  Can get perfect rise for scope with different cheek pieces.
Less expensive.

Not impressed with Ruger offering above.

The Second Amendment is a doomsday provision, one designed for those exceptionally rare circumstances where all other rights have failed -- where the government refuses to stand for reelection and silences those who protest; where courts have lost the courage to oppose, or can find no one to enforce their decrees*. However improbable these contingencies may seem today, facing them unprepared is a mistake a free people get to make only once.

So..9 years ago I bought 4 standard Ruger 10/22s and did the following to each of them to create LTRs..

1) Tech sights, 2) Extended Mag release, 3) bolt release, 4)silicone bolt buffer, 5) Uncle Mikes 1-1/4 detachable sling loops, 6) Standard M1 sling, 7) 2 black mags, 2 clear mags (for the 2/8, 2/3 mag change drills)  All these mods probably cost, what? maybe 120$ when you add it all up?  So, I think maybe a total of 350-375$ for each rifle? Probably a bit more with all the shipping..
I guess this was a bit of overkill, but that's what I consider as a standard LTR these days.
I know as instructors in CA we aren't allowed to let people legally "borrow" our rifles, even on the range, but I really think having a few of these on hand really helps when students show up with:  -front sights that fall off, -Those brand new grey Rugers with the terrible rear sights that are incredibly hard to adjust, - old tube mag models that simply can't get dialed in, etc, etc..
The only real problem I see with this model is the price.  This thing really looks nice right out of the box, especially that cheek support.
We always bring pool noodles and athletic compression tape to help out students who can't get a good sight picture.
If instructors had a few of these on hand, with.. let's face it a more robust and "big fingered" version of the tech sights, that would really be awesome.    Big price point though..

While the MSRP of $899 does make some people shy away, 2 big points.  1) I don't think the comparison to rifles with different feature sets is valid. 2) MSRP is never what people pay...Rugers in the wild will likely be something closer to $750-$800 at most, likely much less.

Moving on....if you don't like the rifle config and want to build up something else?  Cool...move along, nothing to see here.  Just like it isn't valid to compare the price of a Chevy Cruze to a tricked out Corvette.  While both will get you to the grocery store, different features, different prices.  If all you want is a Cruze, cool, buy a Cruze.  But you can't get a 'Vette for a Cruze price.

If you like these features, then compare what you could get by building it yourself.  I did a back of the napkin and for these features, you're looking at a minimum of $550-600.  And that doesn't include a rear bedding lug for the receiver (likely another $200 or so).

Looks like a very nice rifle, I'm sure an "in the wild" price would be much more reasonable! If the trigger is really nice, I can see buying one to add to my other LTR's.
