Bucket shot story

Guess this is a sure sign it's been too long since my last Appleseed Shoot. I'm struggling to remember the details of the Bucket Shot story. The basics are a Revolutionary War recruiter seeking riflemen in what would become Kentucky put a bucket out at 250 yards and guys lined up to take shots at it. Every one of them hit the bucket.

Can someone point me to the real story with the right details? Thanks.

Super Trooper

You seek Capt Daniel Morgan, and Morgan's Men.  :F
The hardest distance to shoot is the six inches between your ears.  It gets easier when you get out of your own way.  Self doubt and negative self talk have no place on the firing line.
Once a shot is gone... good or bad, it is gone.   Focus on the next one. Make forty good first shots.

That's the one. Thank you, Trooper.

I believe the story about the bucket but would add in a few interesting thoughts.  I just wonder how many of the people that hit the bucket did so out of luck rather than skill.  It had to be more than zero  :snipersmi.

If you shoot an average of 4 MOA or more, you will miss that bucket in some measurable distribution over a large number of shots.  If you wanted to join Morgan, you had to have both some skill and some luck I imagine.  Less luck was needed the more skilled you were.

I have never scored higher than a 215 at an Appleseed shoot.  I also had many....many scores just below the 210 minimum.
