As a first timer when it comes to choosing an M1 rifle, which purchase method is more likely to get me a better shooting Garand?  I'm only about two and a half hours from the north store so it's not that hard for me to drive there if it's my better option. No interest in a safe queen, it will be shot, cmp, appleseed, who knows. Thanks for any help, Tom

Call ahead, if they have any inventory, I say go pick it out. Otherwise, I'd suggest field special mail order with a sticky note for whatever you want (hra/sa, an wwii). Ihc and wra bring higher premiums.

Go the the CMP forums and members that live close go and post a report of what is there.  If you mail order ask for a shooter please.  You will get a nice rifle.

If at all possible go pick out your M1 in person.

My son Travis did that in July at the South Store and it was a great experience.

Be aware though. You may not be able to leave with just one...

The CMP Specials will be the best shooters.
