10/22 buffers: Tuffer Buffer recommendation

In the age of the internet, it's easy to become jaded, cynical, and grumpy regarding the lack of good customer service. Look up any company or organization, and it's easy to find people complaining left & right about how they were mistreated. It's much harder to find positive comments from when a company does something *right*.

I'd like to pass along a comment about a recent transaction I had with Tuffer Buffer. This company got it right.

Among the many accessories that can be had for the venerable 10/22, one of them is a squishy buffer pin to replace the factory steel pin. There are lots to choose from. I found a few recommendations for the Tuffer Buffers & decided to order some. It didn't hurt that they were also less expensive than similar buffers from other companies.

Within two minutes of me placing an order through their website, my phone pinged with a reply email. I assumed it was an automated reply with an order confirmation. However, much to my surprise it was a personal email thanking me for my order, and letting me know that my items would be placed in the mail first thing in the morning. Now that's something you don't see every day.

The buffers arrived after about 2 weeks (they come from Canada) and installed perfectly. Now, I haven't had a chance to try them out with live fire yet or to do any long-term testing of the buffers. However, purely from the aspect of good customer service, speedy communication, and great prices... they have my hearty recommendation.

If you're interested in trying some, here is their website: http://tufferbuffer.com

Oh yeah... One other thing.

When they arrived, I noticed something inside the envelope.

What the...

Hey, look at that!

I touched base with Kelly afterwards. It turns out that she's an Appleseed supporter & sends out a trifold with every order.
Now that's awesome.

Excellent. I'll order some and give her some positive Appleseed feedback.

Guys, forgive my ignorance, what problem do those buffers solve?

They somewhat quiet the clank of the bolt hitting the stop pin. My 10/22 had a quarter million rounds when a "friend " lost my stop pin. He bot me a no-name plastic/nylon/??? buffer. Lasted about 100,000 rounds.

I'm fairly new in the 10/22 ownership game, so others can probably chime in better than I can. Other than the noise improvements, some folks have reported that the holes in the receiver where the steel stop pin goes through have been slowly elongated by the bolt's impacts. Personally, I've had one very new (less than 200 rounds) steel pin get deformed by a protrusion on the bolt, making it difficult to remove from the receiver. It's a relatively small improvement in the grand scheme of things, but it's also a cheap one.
