I had 20/10 vision up until I turned 18 and went off to college.  I had to get glasses to correct a slight myopia which is also known as being near sighted.  While I can't necessarily attribute the causality of my degraded vision to studying text books, I believe that reading texts books and performing academic work played a large role in destroying my once perfect vision.

I have always liked aperture sights because it can sharpen your vision and increase your depth of field.  It does this by using diffraction.  There are some draw backs to these sights.  They are not good in low light conditions.  The smaller the aperture is, the sharper your vision will be but at a cost of less light.  On sunny days this is not a problem.  On cloudy days or near dawn/dusk, you may be unable to gather enough light for your eyes to use it.

I bought a cheap $30 open reflex sight today at Cabela's.  I mounted it on my CMMG upper to where it is about 1 foot away from my eye with the stock fully extended.  I did this for a few reasons; this is a cheap reflex sight and I have to minimize its parallax error (some high end red dots claim no parallax but this is BS, the parallax is just too small to notice), and I want to also keep my pop up sights on the rifle.  While shooting today I struggled with my "poor" vision.  Through a combination of my bad eye sight and the cheap reflex sight, the image on the glass was out of focus.  I put my eye glasses that I normally use while driving on and the image cleared up a bit.

Full of frustration, I put the rear pop up sight up to see if it would help me line up the blurry image of the reflex sight and allow me to shoot accurately .  I stumbled on something that I had never considered before.  I found that the image of the reflex sight was sharp and in focus when viewed through the pop up peep sight.  The target 25 yards away from me was also in focus.  I have always been aware of the magical characteristic of peep sights to sharpen my vision.  Somehow the idea of using a peep sight with a reflex sight had escaped my brain storming on ways to improve my shooting precision.  I had never considered trying an aperture with a reflex sight.  This accidental discovery has been one of the most effective ways to improve my shooting.

Last evening, it occurred to me that when a defender of Liberty is called home, their load lands upon the shoulders of the defenders left behind. Just as the Founders did their duty for Liberty, every subsequent generation must continue their work lest Liberty perish. As there is no way for the remaining adults to take on the work of those that die, we must pass the ideals and duties on to the children. -PHenery

Biggest issues will be dot size and reflections regardless of dot focus. But cowittnesing sights is always a good idea.

My advice is quite similar to Jeff Coopers. Low power scope and backup irons.
