In case you have 6 weeks off from about June 6 to July 8 or so, the prestigious NRA Whittington Center in Raton, NM needs 3 volunteers for Lead rifle, assistant rifle and an archery instructor. Minimum is at least NRA Cert. Archery naturally is more flexible.

This is the NRAWC's Adventure Camp for teens.  On 33,000 acres!

Throw in a bit of RWVA history at lunch and no one will mind. Young minds soak it up. All of them want to be here. The parents, BTW, pay about $1000 just for tuition.

The camp is about leadership, patriotism and marksmanship.
The "patriotism" revolves around the history we tell and more if you want.
The feedback has been very positive on this aspect of camp! ;)

Rifle COF is a scaled down "cliff notes" version of a 2 day Appleseed...due to time and other constraints.
I will send you a "suggested" COF when you sign up. We do weave NRA stuff into it and it works beautifully.

You have a private remote range, covered from the hot sun, porta-pots and a small log cabin to store stuff in.
And it is the same range we use for our Appleseed UKD range..how cool is that. And the hidden steel is there!

You start out a close range like an Appleseed, teach the fun-damentals on Ruger 22 bolt guns, then on to KD to 400 yards, The campers love shooting M1 Garands, 03A3's, AR-15's, fancy 308 bolt guns, even a lever action 30-30 for the 200 yard buffalo. Henry supplies 22 lever rifles too!
All rifles/ammo supplied by industry. Just show up and teach! Again, 3 hots and a cot, small travel stipend and hanging out with other like minded folks who like to teach!

Every other evening as we change groups, you will be behind Ronnie Barretts  big M107A1 50 BMG that he so graciously loans the campers for the 1000 yard 4 moa steel on the "primitive range" range. Also just 20 yards away, they shoot a Barrett MRAD in 338 Lapua at a MILE! Steel target size is about 3 moa.  I ran this (Barrett range) event for years so will help you out even though I am demoted to "Camp Director" now. ;D

You have a half day off starting at noon, every other day.  How about the famous 1000M steel White Buffalo to shoot!
But then go back to work at 6 in the evening for 2 hours at the Barrett event mentioned above!

There is lots of networking with NRA instructors and staff both local and nationwide. Most of the staff recognize Appleseed's high standards.
And BlueFeather and I have have paved the way for good relations at the center.

These young folks come from all over the US.
They learn many survival and shooting skills and shoot nearly every class of firearm. This is an experience of a lifetime for these young adults.

These young adults are referred to as "Campers".

The AC is all volunteer. Sound familiar?
Room and board provided as is a travel stipend to and from NRAWC. You stay in fully furnished log cabins with antelope, deer, turkey and the odd bear, puma and elk roaming around the cabins. You will hear the big hoot owls each night and coyotes each eve and early AM. It gets noisy even after the shooting stops! The stars are so bright you need to close the shades each night! Bring your I-device and Star Gazing app!

The numerous sponsors give lots of free goodies to instructors.
All firearms, ammo and other goodies are all donated by sponsors throughout the firearms industry.
I brought a few of my own MBR's too to shoot on my time off.
This is real world experience for everyone.
Safety and fun are the buzzwords.

The days are long and hot. Imagine 4 back to back Appleseeds with a 2 day break then back at it again for the same for the second session with a fresh group of 60 campers.
We meet at 6AM for breakfast and dinner is over at 7PM. Meal time is often a working meal like Appleseed.

The rewards, like Appleseeds, are immense. And as always, it ain't about the shooting.

Between the lines for these kids, it is about discipline, taking responsibility for your life and the consequences of not being responsible.
The hard lessons of life become evident.
They learn to work as a team and to social interact in many situations.
And we supervise that as well as teaching the rifle portion.

It ain't like those other "summer camps". This is the real deal.

There are rewards for top shooter in each discipline and top camper. Prizes are firearms (parents take possession) and a week long hunt.
On graduation day, you get to meet their parents and the kids will rave about you and  their experience.

These young folks are our posterity.

Next to Appleseed, this is my favorite.
