"Pocket-Mod" data book

Years ago I "recycled" as my rifle data book a small zipper-closed day planner that my wife was throwing out, I designed and printed loose-leaf sheets to fit it, and it's worked great ever since.  However, as small and handy as it is, it's still an extra thing to carry, since I prefer to carry to the practice range as little as possible beyond what I would normally carry in the field.  As an engineer, I keep a sheet of grid-lined sketch paper folded pocket-mod style in my wallet in case inspiration hits, and it occurred to me that that's half of a data book already.  (If you're unfamiliar with the Pocket-Mod concept, go check out pocketmod.com now.)  Attached is a simplified version of my old day planner page scaled and tiled in Pocket-Mod form to make a wallet-size data book - or if you prefer, one that fits in the buttstock of the rifle wrapped around the cleaning rod.  Each one holds 8 pages of target feedback, and when filled, can either be flattened out at home to collect in a loose-leaf notebook, or kept folded archived in an appropriately sized recipe box.

Give it a try.  Print out as needed, trim away the outside border as close to the printed area as you can (exporting the CAD file to PDF added a lot of lopsided border, I don't know why - I'll see if I can fix it later), and fold it the way the video at pocketmod.com shows.  Keep one in your rifle and always have it with you.

Very nice Azmule, I have created blank pocket notebooks using this folding method, a databook this way is brilliant. In your template what do you intend by 'grid'? I have not seen this before.
Thanks and thanks for sharing this.

Shot grid resolution - I like to leave that definable so I can zoom the grid in or out depending on what position I'm shooting or what I'm working on that day.  Also allows me to zoom out enough to mark multiple bulls on the same grid if I'm doing NPOA shift drills.

Ah, OK thanks. That makes sense, I had not thought about resolution. Very nice Riflemen's hack.

Somewhere else where this format is useful - I constantly set my clipboard down absent-mindedly while working with shooters throughout the day, then have to go find it to see who's presenting what next.  So at my last shoot I put an abbreviated COF outline in a PocketMod, and just worked from that out of my shirt-pocket all day, going clipboard-free!

Though it's a little off-topic for this board, If anyone else wants to try a PocketMod COF, here's the MSWord doc from that shoot that you can use as a template - modify as needed.   O0

Isn't that how the military used to work with maps for was use and portability??
