Well, we have a new convert to the West. Yes thats right, another Appleseed instructor(to be) wants to move out west. Socalserf has been given his papers, and now can cross the border.

Saturday began, a balmy windless 45*, but soon became 71. 16 shooters showed up for their own drink from the firehose,Redcoats began the firing and AQT's, followed by another redcoat, finished it out. Several shooters were knocking on the door, And several more in the 185-195 range. Mostly 10/22's on the line, One or two ARs ,M1A and Garands finished out the line up. Campfire stories and lively discussion were had at Mamaliberty's house.

Sunday started more breezy than Saturday, one additional shooter, but didn't stop the redcoats from going down. NPOA drills, and other fun things (stars, and blank sheets) were had, and brought the picture up close and personal to several shooters. Everyone showed improvement, the AQT reared their heads and were again taken in stride, most especially Biathlon(228), Dick T (235), and John Doe (222), all from the FSW. Special thanks to wayneborngesser, and Bealahtrash for assisting with the line. Let me know if I have left something or someone out.

OK, now that I have had some sleep, I can finish the report. The range is beautiful and could hold twice as many shooters than what were present. Actual range out to 300. No shortness of hospitality here in Newcastle. Of the three riflemen obtained this weekend, two were with scoped 10/22's and a bolt gun. I forgot to add an SKS, and several FAL's also on the line. Many pictures taken and will be posted ASAP. Working on a second date, club meets tonight.

This was found on the Facebook site. It was posted by Craig who came close to shooting Rifleman.

Went to my first Appleseed in Newcastle, WY this past weekend, and it was a great experience. I learned a hell of alot! I've shot rifles plenty, and I thought I was a decent shot, but boy was I wrong. I've never put too much thought into real rifle training, and I've mostly concentrated on pistols. Any rifle time largely consisted of bench shooting (sighting my rifle before hunting season) and the old 'shoot Sh*t in the dump' routine. The Appleseed was more valuable to my skills than I ever could have imagined. Field positions, NPOA, Firing the shot, utilizing a sling, breathing, pretty much everything I've never really put effort towards was learned in the first day, and improved upon the second. Shot a 194 on the AQT the first day, and fussed my shots on the slow stage the second day and scored a 186. Regardless, my shooting still improved the second day contrary to my score. With some more practice, hopefully I can get rifleman at my next one. The instructors were excellent, full of information and extremely helpful.

No matter your experience and skill level, attend one of these shoots! They're inexpensive (sometimes free!), and are full of valuable information. You're bound to learn something and come out of it a better shooter and a better American. You don't need any fancy equipment, one person scored rifleman with a bolt action marlin with stock sights. A 10/22 with tech sights works wonderfully, but anything will due as long as you have it zeroed.

I again urge you all to attend an Appleseed (or a few!) and BRING YOUR FRIENDS!!!

As for me, I enjoyed the Newcastle event more than I could say.

It was great working with Colonialshooter, and meeting all the Free State Wyoming folks.

The Black Hills region is beautiful!

The Newcastle range is indeed a wonderful range and deserves to be full of rifleshooters.

Perhaps next time it will. The upside, of course, is that a thinly attended shoot is the great instructor to student ratio.

Ages of the attendees was 7-60 something. It is always a great thrill to me to see so much progress as shooters learn their skills.

It was hard to take leave of my new friends and come home.

Hey Socalserf,

What is it you always say?

How do you know when you are among friends?
Answer, ... When you are at an Appleseed!  ;D

It sounds like a great AS.
