Anyone interested in attending an RBC in the NE Region here's your opportunity.

Subject title says it all.
This RBC will allow you to shoot up to 400 yds.

Some of the best (well, the best) Instructors in the Program will be running this one.

All are encouraged to attend.

An RBC not only gives a Shooter the opportunity to sharpen their shooting skills but all skills involved in running/attending an Appleseed Event.

Here's the info on an RBC...............................

What is an RBC (Riflemans Boot Camp)?

For some people, attending boot camp represents the fast-track to becoming an RWVA instructor. To others, it's an opportunity to learn a great deal more about rifle marksmanship.

In the words of one of our boot camp graduates: "Its a place where a group of dedicated volunteer instructors take a week or more off from their jobs, and travel to Ramseur (or elsewhere) to instruct a bunch of new guys in both rifle marksmanship basics and teaching that very skill to others..."

He's right.

During that week instructors and students get to know each other, and if history is any indication, they oftentimes forge lifelong friendships.

The training consists of class room instruction, range safety instruction, shooting at 25 yards, shooting at longer ranges, shooting at pop-ups (if available), and helping each other work out individual problems discovered during the short range work. The type of target will be variable during the 25-yd work, the pop-ups are pop-ups and the full distance AQT targets are standard military D targets.

The training first focuses on the basics at the 25 yard range to uncover and correct any problems the students have before moving on to the longer ranges. Once the students demonstrate their newly learned abilities at 25 yards consistently, longer distance instruction starts. During that process the students learn that all that repetition at 25 yards really does translate into hitting targets at 100, 200, 300 and 400 yards.

The last day at boot camp calls for more practice at running a firing line, and instructing fellow students in preparation for the Appleseed that weekend where they'll get to repeat that line calling. They'll also cover range safety officer work and instruction in basic rifle marksmanship techniques to the Appleseeders.

And lastly, if you go to a boot camp and don't have one of the best times of your life, "something is wrong with you and you need professional help." (M1A4ME Boot Camp Graduate, RWVA Instructor)

Oh, my. Looks like a four hour bike ride over state roads with nary an interstate in sight. Hmm... :)

Unhappy it is ... to reflect that a brother's sword has been sheathed in a brother's breast, and that the once happy and peaceful plains of America are either to be drenched with blood or inhabited by slaves. Sad alternative! But can a virtuous man hesitate in his choice?

It isn't so bad, Ross. I've come home from Ft Drum, which is a little further in 3 hours, 15 minutes. That was a K100RS on NY 3, of course, and in excess of legal limits.

By the way, folks, I will be the Shoot Boss for this one. Smurf is taking the helm for the Appleseed immediately following the RBC.

Instructors are welcome, but do remember that all firearms brought must be NY legal. Mags too.

Can we get a quick synopsis of what's legal and what's not from our NY folks?
They have men amongst them who know very well what they are about, having been employed as Rangers against the Indians and Canadians and this country being much covered with wood, and hilly, is very advantageous for their method of fighting. . . . ". Lord Percy

Sounds like New Englanders to me.

Here's a "Basic" run down.

Any Semi Auto Rifle with a detachable magazine CANNOT have any other "Evil Feature".

In NYS Evil Features are;

    Folding or Telescoping stock
    Thumbhole stock
Second handgrip or protruding grip that can be held by non shooting hand
    Protruding pistol grip
    Bayonet mount
    Flash suppressor
    Muzzle brake
    Muzzle compensator
Threaded barrel designed to accommodate a flash supressor, muzzle brake or compensator
    Grenade launcher

A Rifle that has any of the above features is considered an "Assault Weapon" and if owned by a NYS
Resident must be Registered.
If registered it is considered "Legal" in NYS and can be used in NYS.
A Resident of another State CANNOT bring a Firearm that's considered an AW into NYS.

The above does NOT pertain to ACTIVE LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS
(However, I'd advise caution).

Magazines CANNOT be capable of holding more then 10 Rounds.

   Yes, Welcome to NY!

Guess we'll have to find a KD range in Maine. We're working on it.

Bad? What made you think I thought it was bad? I was grinning at the thought of deducting the cost of a motorcycle trip through FOUR HOURS of two-lane blacktop!! Oh, please, Bre'r Nickle... don't throw me in dat briar patch!! (Just need to be sure I get a hitch and a small trailer for the Shadow, as I'll likely be toting my gear and Alix's - not much cargo space on a Honda Rebel!)

My son, we're pilgrims in an unholy land. - Dr. Henry Jones, Sr.

Guess I'd better take the grenade launcher off of the 10/22.

And put some glass on the Mosin Nagant if I'm going to shoot out to 400 meters with it so I can SEE WTH I'm shooting at. Or pull the pistol grip off of the AR. :wb:

Or use one of my numerous rifles that are NY legal. And, bolt guns at that.

I live in Vermont and I do shoot in New York a lot. I had been agonizing about getting straight answers about bringing my AR to matches and/or practices. The way I understand it is being considered felony possession of an illegal firearm.

Someone pointed me to the Safe Act website. There is an interactive tool on the gun owners page and a call in phone number for answers.

https://www.governor.ny.gov/nysafeact/gun-owners

I used the interactive tool and my AR which had been AWB New York good came up as not good.

http://www.governor.ny.gov/nysafeact/registration-questionnaire

It was only the pistol grip. There are a variety of work arounds, none of which appealed to me in particular.

Any one feature.

Very silly. A 10/22 with a thumbhole stock will be considered an assault weapon.

I did call the phone 'hot line' and quizzed about going to NRA matches and was told flat out no. I asked if I would be able to register and was told flat out no, being I wasn't a NY resident.

So I now own a .223/5.56 bolt gun.

See you in New Bremen.
