This is an intersting look at an untrianed person firing a fully automatic rifle for the first time.  It produced an affect of being 720 times slower than real like so you get to look at how the rifle moves.

Look at how much the magazines moves.

Last evening, it occurred to me that when a defender of Liberty is called home, their load lands upon the shoulders of the defenders left behind. Just as the Founders did their duty for Liberty, every subsequent generation must continue their work lest Liberty perish. As there is no way for the remaining adults to take on the work of those that die, we must pass the ideals and duties on to the children. -PHenery

I keyed in on a couple of things. One was how perfect the geometry of the shell deflector seems. Every round bounced away perfectly. The other thing was that it seemed there is a rotational component of the recoil motion. The rifle appeared to twist clockwise from the shooter's perspective.

This one is really amazing too (AND UNDERWATER!): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cp5gdUHFGIQ&feature=youtu.be&annotation_id=annotation_923158209&feature=iv&src_vid=OubvTOHWTms

They have another one where they fire handguns underwater, but this one explains more about why the bubbles expand and contract with the shockwave.

"We have always looked upon men as a set of beings naturally free - that a people can never be divested of those invaluable rights and liberties which are necessary to the happiness of individuals, to the well-beings of communities or to a well regulated state, but by their own negligence, imprudence, timidity or rashness. They are seldom lost, but when foolishly forfeited or tamely resigned." ~Jonas Clarke

Not surprising   One of the reasons I think Appleseed is so perfect for homeschoolers is that it teaches history, civics, math and physics.

Firearms are the perfect demo vehicle of Newton's Third Law. That bullet being pushed sharply down the barrel, engaging the rifling and spooling up to multi-10000s of RPMs creates a fair amount of torsional forces. You're just seeing their results.

By the way, the YouTube channel they mention "Smarter Every Day" is superb. Destin is a fascintating guy.

How did I not see this thread before?   ???

The rotational effect is very interesting.  I know the bullet gets spinning very fast, but the rifle rotates clockwise from the shooters perspective.  Don't most rifles have a right hand twist to the rifling?  That would mean the bullet is being spun clockwise and should cause a counter-clockwise rotation on the rifle (still from the shooters perepective).  The regular way that the rifle twists one way as the bolt carrier goes rearward and then back as the bolt carrier returns almost makes me think there is something going on with the buffer weight and the twist of the buffer spring as the bolt cycles.  Things that make you go hmmmm....

All too easy to get sucked into that vortex that is the internet video rabbit hole.

It starts simply enough with the super slow mo M4. Then it's pistols underwater. Then an AK underwater. And then more AK underwater. And then, a round of .50BMG in a microwave!....

Love me some internets.

But it still might not be quite as much fun as the bacon grease Glock....
