Knob-adjustable rear sight for 10/22?

We have Tech-Sight 200 on one of our 10/22s. It works ok, but increasingly we use it for different events at different distances from 25 to 100 yards, and adjusting it for elevation with the tool is a PITA.

Is there a good substitute rear sight that has adjustment knobs like on an M1? I am having trouble finding anything on the interwebz. What about an AR15 BUIS? Would that be too high for the Tech-Sight front post?

I have a Williams Foolproof on another 10/22 and it's ok, but for this rifle I want something that's a little more rugged and GI-looking than the prissy target sight.

Thanks.

Daisy 5899 Peep Sight can be mounted, and has elevation/wind age knobs.
Although they may not be "GI-looking" they are certainly effective. Other than those, and the Williams, nothing comes to mind.

Add a Rapidex knob to the rear sight. Unfortunately it only works for windage not elevation

A rear AR15 sight is too high to use with the TechSight front.  Ar siights are too high togehter unless you use a stock that is in line with the barrel and you have some means to mount the front AR sight.  The Tapco Intrafuse stock is like that and there are rails you can buy to mount a front sight on but then you have shorter sight radius. Seems like a look of trouble and money to do that.

If you add a Rapidex knob be sure to replace the detent with a 1/8" ball bearing or the knob will be very hard to turn.  You can get the ball bearing at most bicycle shops that have been in business for a while.  Too bad somebody doesn't CNC machine a 10-22 reciever with an M1/M14 rear sight base/ears on it

Thanks, guys. While Rapidex looks good, it's windage only and my biggest need is elevation adjustment for the various distances. I'll check out the Daisy. I have also written to Tech-Sights suggesting that they introduce a high-end version with M1-style knobs, and offering to beta-test it.

If they do, they'll have some takers...

The Marlin Tech Sight is "almost" knob adjustable.  Windage I can do with fingers, but elevation takes a small screwdriver.  I'm fast enough to set it during a KD RFAQT but it's not as slick as it could be.

I'm in the process of mounting an NECG rear peep on a Ruger #1, which looks great and is rock solid but doesn't click-adjust either.  Amazing that so many have tried (Williams, Bravo, etc.) but all have fallen short...

The Daisy sight should line up quite nicely with your front Tech-site.  Yes I did the measuring after installing a Daisy rear on the scope rail.  I suggest cleaning any excess finish off the sight rail and the inside of the Daisy sight as it just fits on the rail.  You need to loosen the screws all the way and gently spread the sight to get it to start onto the rail then it will slide on.  I did the math then cut a piece of coat hanger and glued it to the front sight to determine the proper height and it is the same height as the Tech-site front sight.

I believe Amazon had the best price on the Daisy rear at ~ $25.  I took mine off an extra CMP special I have.

While it's a bit more complicated, the best solution IMO (and I've hunted high and low for an answer to this question) are the Williams sights.  Using these sights requires a bit more effort, but the results are IMO well worth it to have a knob adjustable target sight on the rear.

Which Williams sight isn't that simple.  You have two choices.  What I chose to do is go with the low profile Williams air gun sight, model FP-GR-TK.  This model has target knobs, however it goes SO low that you'll need to make a small cutout on the side of your stock to accommodate it.  For the front sight use the Lyman 17ATC sight, which is 0.854 inches in height.  Note that the Williams sight mounts on a 3/8" dovetail, so you'll also need to purchase a rail for the top of your receiver with a 3/8" dovetail.

Your second option is to use the Williams FP-AG-TK rear sight.  This also mounts to a 3/8" dovetail, however it is too tall for the Lyman front sight, and there isn't a taller Lyman front sight that I could find.  If you go this route, you'll likely want the same Lyman 17ATC front sight, however you'll also want to add a 0.250 inch front sight riser, to get the front sight up high enough to zero the rifle.  This of course puts your line of sight a bit higher over the bore, but doesn't require any cuts to the stock.

I have a rifle set up this way, I'll try to post some pics tomorrow!

Thanks. I have one 10/22 already set up with Williams FP-AG-TK and Lyman/riser. It works great, especially with the Lee Shaver small circle reticle in the front sight. For the rifle I'm considering now, I want to keep the more rugged M1 look - also because it is a loaner and I want the tougher sights.

The plan now is to find the lowest possible AR15 sight that has elevation adjustment for the rear. I have another riser for the Tech-Sight front sight if I can't adjust it as-is to work at AS distance.

As for elevation adjustment with the Daisey rear sight. The rifle in the picture that Wally posted is mine and is frequently loaned out as in the picture. I put the Rifleman sticker on the stock to cover up some glue from where the duct tape that had my come ups from 50ft to 200 Meters on it. The numbers finally wore off, so I put the sticker on instead. There is lots of adjustment in them and they adjust properly and consistently. They are tough too. That rifle has been to sixty+ Appleseeds, and used by dozens of people without ever having an issue. It also just rides around in a soft case in the trunk. It is a very excellent sight. You cannot beat its price, ease of use, or reliability.

You may have already run across this, but after a little digging (and actually reading your post in more detail - I misunderstood what you were looking for the first time, as I was in a hurry), the closest I've found is this:

http://www.amazon.com/UTG-Model-Complete-Match-grade-Sight/dp/B001BR4VQ0

It's obviously an AR15 style rear sight, rather than a Garand style sight, and despite its low profile designation it looks to be pretty high up off the bore, but it might still be interesting to look at.  Not sure what front sight to go with it, other than to add some rails to the front of the 10/22 and use the corresponding rail mounted front sight.

Or if you really want the Garand look, there's this...

http://www.shootingtimes.com/2011/05/20/gunsmithing_build_a_22_rimfire_garand_part_3_052011/

Not sure I'd be up for cutting up a Garand receiver and welding it onto a Ruger receiver, but the results do look cool!

I had 2 range sessions with the Daisy 5899 and I like them... Yesterday (Saturday) they almost walked out of the rail while shooting. I forgot to locktite them  :wb:

After that issue was fixed. I went today to the range to zero (again) and I was able to shot a box and got 1/5 MOA per click for Elevation and 1/2 for windage on a 16.5" barrel (Tech sight front tower with std AR15 post).

I plan to shot some AQTs next moth with this rifle... Let's see if the survive an AQT grind!
