I bought .22 CCI Longs instead of LR by mistake.

Does anyone have any experience shooting longs in a 10/22?  I'm assuming that there is probably not enough force to push the bolt back.

They probably won't feed properly, since the mags are designed to hold 22LRs.

Solution:  Find someone with a tube fed 22 and swap ammo - many of them will handle 22 long (and 22 short) just fine.

Buzzbie,

I have a Marlin lever action that shoots LR, longs or shorts. If you can get them up to the northern part of the state, I would be interested in buying or swapping for them. I think I can get my hands on some 22 LR from a friend.

They should also work in a .22 revolver if you know someone who has one.

They'll likely feed just fine, as long as you make sure to seat them all the way back when loading the magazine [smack the back of the mag, just like you'd do w/ a ctr-fire box mag.] The real problem is likely to be that they'll cycle the bolt just enough to extract & then stovepipe each round; it would be better if they didn't cycle the bolt at all, & you'd be able to work the action much like a straight-pull bolt action [just imagine you're in the Battle of the Somme w/ some poor Canuck regiment armed w/ Ross rifles... ;)]

As Nero said, you're likely better off finding someone w/ a manual action you can trade ammo with.

Too bad they aren't the CB Longs: lots of folks like using those for pest control [not much louder than an air gun when fired out of a longer barrel.]

Ive seen shorts all over the place, but I don't think ive ever seen longs in a gun shop.

If the bottom of your bolt has the radius redone, they should run. They will feed with an unmodified bolt, they may not cycle the action.

I just saw longs yesterday, for the first time in years...  Had to take a double look because I saw .22 -- A triple look because I saw long.
