     Just wanted to thank everybody for making my family feel so welcome at our first Appleseed Event, we really had a great time.  We were only able to stay for Saturday due to ministry commitments.  The instruction we received on Saturday was first rate.  Although this was our first Appleseed, it will not be our last.  Looking forward to many more.

What a terrific Patriot's day shoot! It's always a pleasure to work an event with TnColonel as Shoot Boss and spend time with our Tennessee Appleseed brothers and sisters but this one was special. The weather was perfect for a shoot, even though my IIT spouse WriteOnTarget disagreed, and the demonstrations and presentations by the Light Company of re-enactors really made the event special.


We had a great group of shooters and a wonderful turnout of the instructor cadre (16 total I think) so we were able to provide a lot of one-on-one coaching to the attendees.


We had two new Riflemen qualify and join the instructor ranks to help us promote Liberty.


Other than the Light Company presentations the most memorable part of the weekend for me is when we proved that what works at 25 meters will work at longer distance. Just after noon on Sunday I brought out my Springfield SOCOM II with aperture sights to the line in case the opportunity might arise for some Red Hat trigger time late in the day. We were on a range that had some full-size metal silhouettes down range with one being at 280 yards according to the laser. I dialed in the come-ups and with Tellico spotting managed to ring the gong 12/15 shots verifying it was "ON".  After our new Rifleman Jay, age 16 I think, qualified we brought him to the rifle and asked if he would like to take a turn. He thought we were going to shoot at the 25 meter backers but I said NO, out there, and pointed to the silhouette. He said he'd never fired a centerfire rifle and didn't think he could hit something that far away. I told him, yes you can, you're a rifleman now. After about 2 minutes coaching on the rifle operation he proceeded to ring the gong 7 OUT OF 10 shots IN RIFLEMAN'S CADENCE. It gladdens the heart of an old Appleseed instructor to see something like this. I hope someone got pictures.

Much of the line Sunday was made up of a BSA troop and some wanted to try to do what Jay had done. I told them when they come back to another Appleseed and qualify Rifleman I'll give them a chance to shoot a Rifleman's rifle. I think we'll see them again.

We had a great weekend at Manchester, TN (Arnold AFB Rifle Range)

We had 26 participants and gained two new Riflemen, one repeat Rifleman and two new Orange Hats.

We had great weather with clear skies both days, a bit cool and windy on Saturday, but in the upper 60s on Sunday.

This weekend was made even more special with the participation by the Light Company, a Revolutionary War Living History group from East Tennessee.  This is their second year participating in Manchester's Patriot Day Appleseed and they plan to join us again next year.

The Light Company demonstrated accurate musket fire, talked about vintage muskets from the 1700s they brought, participated in the telling of the three strikes, the Volley for Liberty and gave a fantastic presentation on patriotism and the flag that left everyone with tears in their eyes.

It was also a special weekend with Eagle Scout candidate David Looper presenting shooting mats, shooting blocks, safety glasses and large Battle Road maps to Appleseed. David is doing his Eagle Scout project on Appleseed.  He also orchestrated videotaping of the entire clinic with three cameras.  He plans to produce three videos about Appleseed and post them on line.

Our two new Riflemen shot impressive scores with our new Orange Hat, annieoakley1, shooting a 235 even after deducting points from a crossfire on her target.
The point was made that a Rifleman who earned his patch shooting at 25 meters can hit a target at longer distance.  New Rifleman Jay, who had never shot a center fire rifle picked up a Springfield Armory SOCOM II .308 and hit a target at 285 yards 7 out of 10 times.

We had more instructors on the line Saturday than I have ever seen at one event including IBCs; more than a third were new IIT0s - all of whom did an exceptional job.

Special thanks to the our host rifle club the Arnold AFB Highland Rim Shooters Club (HRSC), which came up with some .22 ammunition for participants who could not find ammunition.  HRSC also provided bottled water and firewood and straw for the re-enactors encampment.

The re-enactors cooked a meal over a campfire Saturday night for the Instructors of the type of food that would have been cooked in a Continental Army encampment. Several instructors and participants also got a chance to fire a Brown Bess.

As always the scouts and adults of Troop 911 had a great time and are grateful for all time the volunteers put in all weekend.  We will see you again in June.  There is not an aspect of Project Appleseed that the scouts do not enjoy and respect.  Below is a link to the still PICs that were take during the event.

This will be the most memorible AppleSeeds for me!
It was wonderful to have the Light Infentry( is that the right name?) Also we had a good group of shooters, and I think they were overall well behaved!
