Think I need to add a little to my front sight post

Yesterday I took my repro M1 Carbine to the range and found my groups were about 9" higher than POA at 100 yards.  They should be...0" higher at that range.  I confirmed I was on the 100 yard elevation.  If I do my math correctly, if the sight radius is 21.5" and x is the amount the front sight post is off
x:21.5 = 9:3600
3600x = 193.5
x = .05375

I need to add .05375".  Replacing the front sight is not an option I want to entertain.  I was thinking to try using bondo and some digital calipers to add that gnat's whisker.  Anybody got a better idea?

Depending on the general size of your front sight, I have found that adding a length of heat-shrink tubing works well.  I've done this on mosin nagants, and while it does make the sight wider in addition to making it taller, I found it to be a worthwhile tradeoff.

Simply measure the height of your current front sight, from base to top, add the .05" to your measurement, then cut a length of HS tubing to that length.

Most electronics stores carry HS tubing, and you may even be able to find some in Home Depot or Lowes in their electrical section.

Does an M1 Carbine have a post front sight? I was under the impression it was a blade.

The problem with doing the right thing is that sometimes you do it on your own.

There is a two part glue system that uses CA glue and a powder to build up or fill in voids.  I think this would give you a better bond than Bondo.  The kit cost about $20.00.  This mixture can then be sanded to the exact height you need.

I will have to gt the name at the hardware store as I can't find it in a search.
Last evening, it occurred to me that when a defender of Liberty is called home, their load lands upon the shoulders of the defenders left behind. Just as the Founders did their duty for Liberty, every subsequent generation must continue their work lest Liberty perish. As there is no way for the remaining adults to take on the work of those that die, we must pass the ideals and duties on to the children. -PHenery

You could do the same thing with CA glue and baking soda.  I wouldn't worry about the exact .05375 height you calculated.  Build it much higher than you think you need and then sand it down like Stand said, until you are zeroed at 100 with your rear sight set at 100.

Heat srink tubing should mold to any shape, besides it is Cheap! I would try that first before using the Glue approch, to give You a better Idea just how much, Glue You would need to get the correct height.
