Oz (aka John H) attended the Watervliet Appleseed on Sept 15-16 with his daughter Maddie.  Maddie took a blue hat and John shot Rifleman.  Maddie also shoots Jr Rifle at one of the local clubs.  Yesterday, John sends me the attached picture in an email with the caption

"So...how many shooters have been to Appleseed on this line?"

And her position looks great and the hand stop is well placed for her body geometry and the sling tension appears sound from this distance.  SPQR heartily approves of the parenting invested in this instance.  Huzzah and carry on.

What is amazing about the image (or would be, if this was a real planet, and not some weird experiment), is that someone from that "club" is in charge, running this firing line. And clearly doesn't know beans about what he (or she) needs to be doing. Zounds!

I looked at the picture and said "Gee, I can tell which one of those kids has been to an Appleseed" immediately.

How many kids are in that club? How long is the range? We could bring a Seed to them. I would love to do a kid seed.

Thank you!! My instructors were very good at the Watervliet shoot, there are about 16 kids and some of the parents stay to watch them shoot. Also my gun for Jr Riffles got upgraded to a 10 pound Kimber.  I don't think i can shoot it standing but I'm not there yet. =-D

The best part?  All on her own, I didn't prompt anything.  Two days of sound training, a lifetime of results. (Not that we're stopping with 2 days, see you in Niles!  Pitmaster, you're in charge of the weather, right?  Mid 60s, partly sunny, please!)

I like the way 2cl thinks, I'm a newbie but I see nothing but opportunity here.  One of the club instructors is aware of and excited about AS and wants to see it at the club.  The club board has approved a shoot but not nailed down a time. The instructor is on the board and said he would follow up on that.  I will make contact this week & try to keep that moving forward and get them pointed toward correct AS folks for arrangements. Once folks have been exposed to AS they won't forget it.

Good work. The man to contact in Michigan is intheburbs. PM him the club contact info and he or his minions will take care of contract formalities.

I am in Illinois but a mere 2 hours away. I would love to help, instruct or SB as needed.

Pitmaster,

Sooner than I expected you to get a kids shoot together.

I am SB at Waterman, IL OCT 6-7 and LeRoy OCT 27-28.
I must check with She Who Must Be Obeyed to see if I can get a third weekend this month.

Are all 16 kids coming? Parents? Coaches?

Actually, its not a kids shoot. Its just a normal AS. I know we have some kids registered. I think there are 4 or 5 kids now with 12 adults registered.

We hope to get other shoots going. I've toyed with doing an indoor shoot and modifying targets for distance.

We'll work with Berrien County to get a shoot together.  Swamp Thing as range development and I have been working with them all year to nail a date down and are determined to get them on the calendar for 2013.

Of course, the possibility exists to do multiple formats here...indoor 2 day, outdoor 2 day (why not in November?), 1 day, etc.  I'm happy to SB this as I'm 10 miles from the club.  We'll get r done.

I have spoken with She Who Must Be Obeyed and I can only do this if I give up my hunting trip next month. As this is not the kids shoot in question and you do have a SB and lets face it, I really want Bambi-burgers, I am not making it.

I owe you a kids shoot and one other to be named later.

Sorry
