The Marlin 795, an ideal LTR.

I've gone thru 2 firing pins on my two 795 loaners, in about 15 classes. I was told NOT to dry fire the Marlins, and haven't had any problems since. I now keep a few extra firing pins and recoil springs (a have tendency to bend them on reassembly), so I can keep the rifles running... Even with these flaws, my 795's have created more Rifleman than my 10/22's...   BeSwift

I really like the marlin with the tech sights.  great little rifles and I have seen many of folks become rifleman with them.  I sold the one I owned but loved the tech sight adjustments on it.  I will pick one up in the future for sure.

I bought a Marlin 795 recently for my wife who will be attending her first Appleseed this month.  I have a Ruger 10/22 based LTR of my own but she complains that its too heavy with the green mountain fluted heavy barrel I have installed on it.  I am doing my best to try and outfit the 795 to basic LTR specifications with Tech-Sights and a USGI web sling but one of the features of the 795 I really really dislike is absolutely atrocious stock trigger.  I've read some of the previous threads on the 795 and done other googling and I've only come up with three options for dealing with the 795 trigger:

1) Spring kit from http://www.mcarbo.com.  This apparently lightens the trigger some but doesn't help with the mushiness and creepiness inherent in the polymer trigger.  Somewhat tricky to install, apparently.  $30

2) Replacement aluminum trigger guard and trigger from http://www.diproductsinc.com.  This just replaces the guard and trigger components and is also somewhat tricky to install.  unknown if you can actually combine this with the mcarbo.com springs.  Apparently improves trigger pull quite a bit.  $65

3)  Do nothing and just deal with a crappy trigger.

Of these options, which have people opted for?  Has anyone tried the DI products guard and trigger or the mcarbo kit, perhaps even both at the same time?  I'm worried that if we stick with the craptastic stock trigger that my wife will become frustrated with results that could have easily been avoided by installing a better trigger.

I went with the mcarbo spring kit.  I am a reasonably mechanically inclined guy, but certainly don't work with my hands or have any training.  I installed the kit with only minimal difficulty.  (One tip: disassemble and re-assemble inside a large clear plastic bag - those tiny retaining clips are murder to find if you launch one).  I love the effect on my trigger.  Much improved.

I had a good gunsmith do a trigger job on mine and it works great. The charge was only $25, but others may charge more. These two rifles have made many Riflemen.
With the plastic trigger guards you must be careful tightening the screws. If they are too tight the guard will break; too loose and the barrel will become loose in the stock after maybe 3/4 of a day's shooting. But it is easy to keep an eye on it.
Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add "within the limits of the law" because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual.  Thomas Jefferson

Look here and do it yourself.  I did mine and it makes riflemen all day long.  http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=217

Ignorance may be bliss, but it's not a virtue.

I've had to send my 795 into Marlin two times for proper feeding problems.  Customer Service has been very good!

The Marlin 795 has just popped up on Gallery of Guns.  99 available. This could portend good things for the Appleseed LTR.  First stock I have seen in a long while.

Per Marlin the first production run is now scheduled for first week of OCT
I have noticed you get things done and I respect that-SPQR

Mr Fink with Marlin has sent me a verification that the LTR is offcially under production. First run is going through factory now and he forwarded a photo from the factor floor for proof. Look for the rifles to be available through Davidsons soon.
