This was our first shoot at the Bluegrass Sportsman's League range since 2008 and what a fantastic shoot it was!  The Range Master is now all-in and, pending dates and board approval, we are looking at holding 4 shoots there next year!  HUZZAH!

A big thanks to our fine crew of Instructors who made this happen; kentuckyjam, brdholman, Andre, boadicea, Slow2Speak, and spitfire51.  Congratulations to Boadicea who passed her PC1!

We had 25 shooters on Saturday and 15 on Sunday.  Congratulations to Sam, Kentucky's newest Rifleman, who shot a 223 on HIS VERY FIRST AQT EVER!  He backed it up with two more AQT's; 223 and 218!  We also had several others knocking on the 200-210 door and several Sharpshooters and near-sharpshooters.

By Divine Providence, the expected/forecast rain from Hurricane Isaac held off completely on Saturday and was just a slight nuisance a few times on Sunday, but nothing that delayed or stopped the action.

On Sunday, the team of Daniel Morgan's Rifle Company had 11 rounds on the Star, while the team of Michael Cresap's Rifle Company had 10 rounds, so Morgan technically won.  However, Morgan's company fired double the rounds that Cresap did, so who was the real winner?  We may need a rematch to answer that!

Also on Sunday, three shooters and one instructor returned from the KD range with smiles on their faces.  The shooters had an announcement to make; "this stuff really works!".  They rang 6 MOA steel at 200 yards with .22 rimfires, .223 and 30-06, and had a great time.

All shooters and Instructors are encouraged to post about their experiences.  Thanks to all for spending your weekend with Appleseed.

Thanks to all of the ladies and gentlemen who came down to be our instructors.  This was my first appleseed and I couldn't have enjoyed it more.

And congrats Sam, great job!!!

Greetings!
So glad a Bluegrass Sportsman's League shoot finally came to pass and was such a success. ^:)^

Know I didn't last as long as I would have liked but am especially pleased that I now have a sling properly attached to my .22 and understand how to use it. :)   Appreciate my fellow shooters  @) who showed me great courtesy & assistance. (You know who you are.) Glad to read that y'all's weather Sunday was much better than further north, though we were happy here for much needed rain.

Thanks to all the helpful & patient staff who kept us organized, learning, & safe.  Kudos to Shoot Boss, Unbridled Liberty, a natural leader & speaker, for his dedication & for a wonderful event.

See you soon!

P.S. All you Scots, remember the CENTRAL KY HIGHLAND GAMES, Sept 22, rain or shine, 955 Elm Street, Eminence KY, 40019  (just north of Shelbyville).

I would like to thank all of those who came out despite a not so good weather forecast. Everyone brought the most important thing, a teachable attitude. Americans who are eager to learn both marksmanship and history makes our weekend both fun and rewarding. You have started down the road to becoming a Rifleman, don't stop now. Be active in your country, state, and community as well as at the range.

The KD shooters put what they had learned to good use and I think everyone on the KD range including the club RSO enjoyed watching a couple young men make hits. Young folks ringing steel with an M1 and surplus ammo far older they are tends to make people smile. Thanks to all of the KD shooters for relating your experience to the others. Now that you are home tell your friends, teach them what you learned, and bring them with you next time.

A special thank you to BGSL for allowing us the use of a wonderful facility.

It might be hard to imagine that this weekend could have exceeded our lofty expectations, but it most certainly did!  Our heart-felt thanks for the patient instruction and admonition to to do, and be our best, not only in the area of marksmanship, but in the broader expanse of what it truly means to be a patriot.  Our character is largely defined by the sacrifices we are willing to make in life,  and our family was humbled by how far some our instructors had traveled just to be a part of our lives this weekend.  Blessings to all of you!  Hope you enjoy the photos:

Wasent easy for me to be there at this shoot but it was definately worth it and I would do it again without question.

First thanks to the shooters for attending as brdholman said you brought your very teachable attitudes with you hope you could soak it all in
It was a very good group to work with I feel that all that attended will be shooting rifleman scores in a short amount of time

Thanks to you Unbridled Liberty for organizing such a great shoot

Thanks to BGSL what a great place to shoot

Thanks Markmywords for all the great pics.

It was awesome!  We had some great shooters, and I got to try my hand at being Range Safety Officer.  That was cool.
I posted a blog post about the shoot at http://pennypincherpersonalfinance.blogspot.com/2012/09/appleseed-again.html

I have to figure out how to get the photos out of my phone, but I have a pic of our new Rifleman being presented with his patch.  I will post here again when I figure it out (new phone).

The only bummer part was I didn't get home until 8 hours after leaving the range, due in part to bald tires in the rain (getting them replaced tomorrow!) and partly due to roadblocks near home.  :wb:

On Sunday, Brad, drew on the white board some average numbers about MOA and wind speed, if anybody has the notes on that, would you post it here?  I didn't get my notebook in time and didn't get it written down.  Thanks.

brdholman

I'll try to type those up and send you a pm later today.

There should have been a KD handout in the packet you got when you checked in on Saturday.  It has general come-ups that will get you on paper for just about any centerfire rifle.  That handout should also have Fred's simplified wind rule: 3@3 and 5@5.
