I found a great source of .308 bullets. They have them in 150 gr.and 168 gr., http://www.goldenwestbrass.com. I buy 2000 at a time for $240.00 with shipping ( last weeks order), I understand that prices will go up soon. They run out of product from time to time, but they will tell you if they are out when you order. Has anybody tried these?

Haven't tried them.

Let us know how consistent they weigh and how accurate they are.

Thanks.

I bought some 168s' last summer,,,haven't done much w/ them,,, but they look good,,,fairly consistent,,,the weather in thes parts will be getting better, then I can get back into my reloading shed,,,
,,,I tried some w/ IMR 4064 , not too impressive in my DSA,,,plan to try IMR 4895 & Win 748,,,and I'll probably revisit 4064 again,,,I'll probably pick up some of their .22 cal. in 62 grn. and give them a whirl as well.

KodyJaret, for what it's worth, I tried 748 years ago in my M1A.  Was not impressed with the accuracy of the reloads and it was dirtier than the IMR powders.  Maybe it's been improved since then. ;)

Bravo

Yup, for loading in the M14, those three just happen to be some of my 'very not favorite' powders.

If I were to recommend powders for that application (168s in a M14) I'd recommend Varget and H4895. The H4895 is significantly cleaner and more stable than the IMR counterpart.

Besides, 748 is a touch too fast to get optimal velocities with a 168.

Yeah,

I load the 168's with H4895.  Supposed to be less temp sensitive than the IMR.  I don't know that for a fact, as I haven't actually loaded the IMR and Hodgden in side-by-side comparisons in different weather scenarios, but the H4895 is working good so I'm sticking with it.

Let us know how you like the goldenwestbrass bullets, hawkeye.

748 is much more temperatire sensitive than 4895. I've used both more than a little, and for an MBR, or ammo that will be stored for a while, I prefer 4895.
They have men amongst them who know very well what they are about, having been employed as Rangers against the Indians and Canadians and this country being much covered with wood, and hilly, is very advantageous for their method of fighting. . . . ".  Lord Percy

Sounds like New Englanders to me.

I just weighted the golden west brass 168gr. bullets and they are 167.5 gr. +or- .3grains. Thats using a beam type scale.

seems like almost 30 years ago the Sierra 168 grn. matchkings were withing .1 grn. each.  I soon quit weighing them.  Don't know what the GI type 147/150 grn. bullets might vary.  If it's no more than .3 grn. then the 168's would have some advantage by the slightly heavier weight at least.

The real test is in the shooting.  Load some up an try them out.  If they shoot good enough to suit you then don't sweat the weight variation.

Pats Reloading in massilon Ohio is on the web.

Father in Law was there last Friday. They are down to the very last 30cal milspec pulled.

We got 4k

There wont be anymore when they are gone. Hurry if you want them

Well, one should draw no conclusions from the experience of one man, BUT...

I used 4064 for all of my 168 loads in .30-06 for the 200 and 300 yd stages of the National Match course. For the 600 yd stage and for the Palma Match (800,900,1000 yds) I used 4320 behind a 190 gr. MK. And this was in a match conditioned M1, not a bolt gun. Never won the blue ribbon, but I never embarassed myself either. FWIW.
