If you've set up a 10/22 with both tech sights and a scope and liked it, please let me know what rings, etc. you used.

I have not done this nor have I seen a setup that works.

When you mount the rear tech you use the rear scope mounting holes ergo you must have a gunsmith drill & tap a couple more holes and modify a base to use these holes. Next you will have to buy see-thru rings high enough to get over the tech's. Don't forget to allow room for the scope's bell as the rear of the scope should be somewhat near the rear tech.

Now you run into problems with cheek-weld. As the scope will be much higher than the tech you will need an adjustable cheek piece to keep your eye in line with the scope or tech (1 inch or more diff).

At this point you should stop and ask yourself, am I better off paying a gunsmith $50 - $100 and buying a $75+ cheek piece or just buy another 10/22 for $200 on sale? Beware this type of thinking leads to very awkward conversations that start out whith the words "But why do you need another gun safe?" **)

If you scroll back a ways you will find my article on the science of mounting for NPOA. Worth a read if you are new to this.

I agree with 2CL, I haven't done so with a 10-22 but have tried other platforms. Usually what happens if you try to do both, neither works well!  :wall: ...O.L.

I built our pair of LTR's with tech sights.
Later we upgraded hers to a scope due to eye problems, but we left the front tech sight in place.
If we need to convert to Iron Sights I just dismount the scope and the scope rail, then install the rear tech sight.

The scope does not see the front techsite

Glad I asked before buying anything ... of people that earn their patch with a 10/22 what's the mix of scopes vs. tech sights?

In my experience it leans to the scopes because few show up with Tech Sights, most have never heard of them and the stock sights leave a lot to be desired......O.L.

It's pretty even. It is not about equipment. It is about the shooter. If your eyes are good, use tech sights. If you are getting old and your sight is starting to go, move to a scope. If you go with a scope remember it's a .22. You don't need a 12-36 X 55. A basic 4x or 3-9 will cover everything you need and get change back from a c-note.

If mounting a scope, make sure you get it far enough forward to maintain proper eye relief when the rifle is fired from the prone position.
"Unhappy it is, though, to reflect that a brother's sword has been sheathed in a brother's breast and that the once-happy and peaceful plains of America are either to be drenched with blood or inhabited by a race of slaves.  Sad alternative!  But can a virtuous man hesitate in his choice?" - George Washington - from a letter to a close friend after the events of April 19, 1775

"There is no nation on earth powerful enough to accomplish our (the United States) overthrow.  Our destruction, should it come at all, will be from another quarter.  From the inattention of the people to the concerns of their government, from their carelessness and negligence, I must confess that I do apprehend some danger.  I fear that they may place too implicit a confidence in their public servants, and fail properly to scrutinize their conduct; that in this way they may be made the dupes of designing men, and become the instruments of their own undoing." - Daniel Webster, June 1, 1837

I'm coming into the party late, but Nodak Spud (I purchased one of their receivers and love it) makes a really nice rear tech sight and picatinny rail combo. Visit the sight here and scroll down to the NDS-26:
http://www.nodakspud.com/NDS-22.htm

You can then pick up a nice pair of tall see-thru rings:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000PW20QK

Pick up a nice cheek pad for $15-$45 depending on what you want:
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=rifle+cheek+pad

Bada-bing-bada-boom... At most, you're spending $120 bucks for a nice modular rifle that'll give you a lot of different options. It doesn't require any gunsmithing knowledge... If you can work an alan wrench, you can easily put this together.

I personally like this option. A lot of people (myself included) prefer using a scope, but have issues with the eye relief switching between standing, sitting and prone positions. When my scope is optimally positioned for standing and prone, it's too far back for sitting. When it's positioned for sitting, it's too far forward for prone and standing. Wreaks havoc with a guy's turkey-neck!

The tech-sights/scope combo would allow one to use the sights for the positions that don't work with the scope. I'm all about giving myself options!

I'm one of those old guys with eyes that don't focus so well on the front sight anymore. However, I've shot several Rifleman scores with the Tech-Sights on my 10/22, and since replacing the rear sight aperture with the .042 diameter insert I find the front sight is much clearer. In fact, I recently shot a Rifleman score with this setup that was higher than I've scored with my scope-mounted CZ-452. In fact, it was a higher score than I've shot with my scope-mounted AR-15. In my case, at least, as long as I follow the correct steps to firing the shot I can score as well with the Tech-Sights as with a scope. YMMV.

Another possibility is this.

I picked one up last week.  Does a fine job.  Coming soon is a higher rail with a channel thru it , different version of see-thru rings.  Mine is intended to be a loaner and not scoped so I don't have to feel bad that I bought too soon  ^:)^

Pretty good coverage of it at Rimfire Central, under Anything 10/22 section.
