i have attended 2 events so far with my M&P 15-22. i also have a couple 10/22;s and one was purchased specifically for appleseed. i really like the boyds thumbhole stock (or similar thumbhole design). the only problem i see with this is i can see myself getting yelled at on the line for "dragging wood" with my trigger finger.

so my question is, does this stock promote the wood dragging tendencies that i already have - or are you still supposed to change the grip to have a better form with the trigger?

thanks in advance

It depends on the stock and your hand. If you can reach the trigger without dragging wood than the stock is for you. If not, you can try a diferent model or you can opt to not use the thumb hole and move your grip further around.

The thing I like about the thumb hole stocks is that they (usually) have very little if any drop at the comb giving your good cheek weld for a scope.

Your friend has one. Why don't you go out and put a few hundred rounds thru it? Try it in all positions. See how it feels and fits.

i need a more local range to shoot from more than a standing or bench rest position.  i would also need to pull some gear off the rifle as he has a monster scope and bi pod that feel like they add 20 pounds to the rifle. i also need less excuses :)

I've got a heavily-modified 10/22 with the evolution stock.  It's fabulous.

I've found that it is easier to get a good C-shape with any stock that simulates more of a pistol grip.  I find myself having to modify my grip on the more traditional rifle stocks - having to move my trigger thumb on top of the stock near my nose to prevent stressing my wrist.

Nice added feature of the Boyd Evolution is that it's ambidextrous, unlike most thumb-hole stocks.  My daughter's a lefty, and we can both use the rifle.

If its primary use will be Appleseed as few as possible.  Rack grade rifle with surplus ball ammunition is what the course is designed for.

But it is your rifle and there are a lot of cool toys.

If you haven't bought the rifle yet and you want the do a bunch of accuracy upgrades consider starting with a target modle to start with.  There was an article at Pyrmid air on the AirForce Talon I think.  For accuracy the writer put it up againts his 10/22 thet he had put about $800 into and the target 10/22 $400.  The Talon had the smallest group, then the factory target rifle then his custom 10/22.

I found the article it is by B.B. Pelletier:

Last evening, it occurred to me that when a defender of Liberty is called home, their load lands upon the shoulders of the defenders left behind. Just as the Founders did their duty for Liberty, every subsequent generation must continue their work lest Liberty perish. As there is no way for the remaining adults to take on the work of those that die, we must pass the ideals and duties on to the children. -PHenery
