Happy Thanksgiving!

Once again I come to consult the Project Appleseed gurus with operational issues on my vintage firearms.  My M1 Carbine has intermittent problems with failure to feed and/or failure to eject.  The magazines are in spec per the detailed CMP article on the Carbine, and a thorough cleaning of the gas piston has reduced, but not eliminated the problem.  Thanks in advance for your help.

What ammo are you using?
Have you completely stripped and cleaned the bolt?
Have you replaced the springs?
Old Guy:  Do it long enough and you get really good at it.

After you check the bolt, clean the chamber, it fouls in my carbines after so many rounds and causes the problem you describe.

I have a friend who shoots one and his claim is that current factory loads are just a tad weak.  He only shoots reloads to get the right energy and his perks along just fine.   It seems plausible when he tells it.

I'm using Remington ammo.  The bolt was about the only thing I didn't tear down the last time I had it apart (figures).  Also didn't pay any special attention to the chamber, since it's a straight wall case.  If both of those don't correct the problem, guess I'll have to buy a set of springs.

Thanks!

PS - How can you tell when the extractor is worn out?  Are there specs for that somewhere?
