Another fantastic weekend in SoCal, temp in the 80's with a slight breeze to keep us cool. The surrounding mountains are snow capped, the grasses were tall enough to cause us to have to mount our targets backers higher than normal, and the sometime changing of the wind direction brought us the reminder of the nearby dairy  ..:..

The instructor staff was having as much fun as the shooters, lying in the dirt with them and making the adjustments needed to their positions.

We had 5 people who were new to shooting who found out it was as safe as it was fun. Fourteen people on Sat, comprised of three groups of a Father and two offspring....one set female, one set younger boys and one set older boys....hence the correct 'offspring' so I stay out of trouble  :D

Sun had 8 returning shooters and added a mix of M1A and Rugar Mini-14 to the previous days all 22's. A little more sun beat down on us and the iced Gatorade went quicker.

All in all everyone had a productive and enjoyable time, and although we had no new 'Riflemen' we did have many promising to return after dry practicing at home. We did have two shooters who 'cleared' the Redcoat  :~  ^:)^

Rocketman was spotting, demnogis was adjusting my sights and I was shooting! It's cause I needed to re-sight my rifle and we only had a red coat to do it! On in CA can you be sweeting with 80 degree weather in the middle of winter! It was so BEAUTIFUL!!

I'll have more to post plus pictures in a few days, I was slacking today when I didn't have school, but they will be up soon,

Mike here.

What a weekend - I learned so much.  Hope you don't have any brass burns Kris.  I can't wait to do some dry fire practice and then back to the range and work it!  I hope I can make it back sooner than later.  I'll definitely have more opportunities to come out on a Sunday and I will.  Now I can begin teaching my son too.  I'm looking forward to working with the Ruger 10/22 to see if it's a little easier.  I'm going to find some shorter magazines for the rifle too.  I hear the S&W makes a small 10 rounder that won't get in my way.  It's hidden on the website in an obscure corner.

I think the part I liked the most was when Mike (CSHR?) pulled out his pocket constitution from his car.  I have one in my glove box too.

Amazing people!

Thanks so much!  See you soon.

Hi Mike I'm glad to hear you had fun and came home with skills to share. It was a pleasure to have you out there you made it fun. I forgot to ask though, is your AR a conversion or a dedicated upper/dedicated .22 ? On My AR's there can be an accuracy issue with the drop in conversion kits due to the twist rate.

Demnogis, Dem, Brando, B, Moe's son... Any of these work.

NewMOe,

What I brought isn't an AR conversion.  It's the Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22.  It was designed from the ground up to be a .22.  So far I really like it BUT I'm going to get some short ten round magazines.   That way I'll be able to get my elbow under the rifle.  No twist rate issues with this rifle.  It seems to be the shooter.

Nothing in the world can take the place of Persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan 'Press On' has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.
