The first 2011 Anappleseed (note: not a typo) is in the books.

This will be just a placeholder for now. Everyone needs time to thaw out.
brrrrrr...absitively winterseed weather

Another fantastic shoot  at the beautiful Anne Arundel facility! There's a reason this shoot always sells out. The line was full both days; 14 shooters showed up bright and early on Saturday with cold weather gear and teachable attitudes.

Four shooters had never before picked up a rifle but were soon plinking Red Coats with aplomb. BeSwift, Patent guy, gjnolte and I were instructing. This was the first shoot under a orange hat for the G-man and he represented all the best qualities of an Appleseed instructor. We were all grateful for the generous invite into the clubhouse to warm up during the history lessons.

Bob and Dominic made the most of Saturday's only AQT and secured their Winterseed patches, both with plenty of points to spare. Good thing; as neither would be able to come back on Sunday. Bob also accepted an orange hat and has already joined the forum under the name "handyman."

The continuing wind and cold on Sunday had no measurable effect on anyone's enthusiasm. The line was "hot" and ready to reign down lead on them Redcoats at the stroke of 9AM. Three new shooters arrived and filled out the line count to 15 shooters. Quickly, Joe and Mike (a father son team) claimed their Winterseed patches.

After lunch, 13 year old Elizabeth began to stun everyone on the line with her outstanding marksmanship. A score of 205 was followed by a score of 212, and ear-to-ear grins all around. She had never shoot a rifle before this weekend and then shot a rifleman score.  :~  (Please excuse me but....) Just Damn! Way to go Elizabeth!

The sun began to wane all too quickly and another An-Appleseed was history.

Now.... I can't wait for the pictures! Patent Guy, can you help me out?

This was an outstanding (if chilly!) shoot.  Thanks to all the students and instructors to devoting the weekend (24-34 deg F) to learning, teaching, and sharing the heritage!  A big congratulations to "handyman" for stepping up to accept the Orange Hat! He's shot in the 240's at multiple Appleseeds and will be a valuable addition to the instructor cadre! I'd be remiss if I didn't echo Brickhouse in our excitement about Elizabeth going from never shooting a rifle, to making Rifleman at meteoric pace ... Simply astounding... !     BeSwift
