After my miserable shooting yesterday, I decided I really need to get out to the range.   I was actually doing worse than I was before I went to my first appleseed.   I guess that is what a year with very little shooting will do to you.

Anyone else up for some shooting this weekend?

If you feel like making the drive up to Lincoln, NE for the IBC, we will be shooting distance on Sunday.  Plus we will make you a better instructor...   >:D

And don't feel too bad.  There are a lot of instructors that can't shoot Rifleman anymore.  Something we need to work on.

I knew I probably wouldn't be able to make rifleman, but I was even worse than I thought.   I was shooting high on just about everything.  I think part of it was parallax issues with my scoped 10/22,  I just couldn't get the eye relief right. Back when I qualified, I had to tape several inches of foam to the back of my stock to make it long enough.  I tried a slip on recoil pad yesterday, but that wasn't enough.  Need to find a good permanent solution for that.   I also need to get the six steps down again.   I kept finding myself rushing the shots and not using the fundamentals like I should have.

I did do better after I switched to my Garand, so that makes me feel a little better.  However, it was still not as good as it needs to be.  I just don't feel right instructing when I can't do it myself.

The best solution for parallax is iron sights!  >:D

Stick with your Garand or get some tech sights...  The rifle still needs to fit you though.

Like I said, come to Lincoln and we'll fix ya!  I think biker is coming, so maybe you can swing a ride with him!

Yeah iron sights will fix that problem, probably why my shooting improved with the M1.   Even with that rifle, the stock feels a little short to me.  Part of the problem of being tall with long monkey arms I guess.

Might be better with a shooting jacket, I noticed last october that I was more comfortable when I had my thick winter coat on.  I've got an M1A that has one of those slip on rubber boots and that is just about perfect for me, but would probably seem totally unwieldy for a lot of people.

Wish I could make the trip to lincoln, but I've already got commitments for at least one day this weekend, so I can't make the drive.  Count me in when we get an ibc here in kansas though.

Yeah....scopes are for old farts like me....you're still a pup. Iron sights would probably be better. Do you have Tech Sights for the .22 as well?

No, I don't have any.  When I first bought the 10/22, it was only a couple days before the first Appleseed I went to.  I knew I wasn't going to be able to get any tech sights in time, so I had to settle for the scope since I was able to get one of those quickly.   Maybe I can use one of the loaner rifles the next time we are out there and give it a shot with the tech sights.

Also, I was just thinking about what we could do for our studying and practice.   I remember someone mentioning that maybe we should incorporate some rifle technical study at our next study night.   Maybe we could do that on an off weekend out at Eureka.   We could have everyone bring some different rifles and go over how they operate and how to troubleshoot.  Then after that, we could get in a little range time with them.

I've got a pretty good selection of stuff in my collection, and between all of our instructors we can probably cover just about every type of rifle we might see out on the line.

I wouldn't mind getting in some practice I am always looking for a chance to do some shooting. send me a PM and let me know what your schedule is like and I will see if we can make it happen.

I'm pretty free most of the weekend.   Sunday morning/early afternoon might be best though, that way I can get my girlfriend to come too.  She said she wanted to go this weekend, but she'll be checking out the arts and crafts fair over at Hillsboro on Saturday.

Where would you want to go for it?  I'm not sure if we can use the range over at Eureka this weekend, and I don't have the contact info for them handy.
