10/22 trigger sticking

Hi guys, I'm having a bit of trouble with the trigger on one of my 10/22s, and I'm hoping to get it sorted out before I loan it out this weekend.

The rifle has a KID two stage trigger installed, and about 40% of the time the trigger has been sticking back/failing to reset.  I'll let my finger off the trigger, but the trigger does not release - it has to be manually pushed before it "pops" back into place.  It doesn't require much force, just a little nudge before it springs back into the reset, but as you can imagine it kills the cadence of a string and could confuse a new shooter using the rifle.

I've sprayed some oil into the assembly but the problem remains.  I'm hesitant to disassemble the trigger assembly because it's not a stock trigger.

Any thoughts?

Either tear it down and figure it out or contact KIDD...not knowing much about them, I'd recommend seeing if there is an overtravel screw and backing it off some, or looking to see if there is a spring missing.  The factory trigger has a spring in the housing and a plunger rests on the back of the trigger to help with reset.

Good luck.

True....last time I saw this, the trigger had been incorrectly installed, and had bent the plunger behind the trigger in the trigger housing.....replacing the plunger & spring corrected the problem, but yeah, it was a booger for cadence.....

July 31st, 2010 AS I was having the same issue with a factory TG. What I found was the the trigger return detent hole was canted. So when the spring pushes the trigger back it did so at an angle causing the detent (plunger), which is steel, to dig into the back side creating a groove in the back of the alum trigger. I checked for alingment of the TRS hole and it is indeed not square. My quick fix for Sunday was to file the back of the trigger true again. I will be fixing the canting hole before the end of the year.

There is no way to drill the hole for the trigger return spring and plunger except at an angle. That's the way it's supposed to be. Don't fix something that ain't broke.

The Kidd trigger has two trigger return springs. One of them is not being allowed to do it's job. You need to clean the trigger group. A little bit of oil sprayed into the trigger group is not maintenance, IMHO.

Here is a link to the Kidd installation instructions. It tells you how to adjust your trigger group.
