I lived overseas when I was a kid.
The country considered people subjects rather than citizens.
I was extremely glad to get back to the U.S.A.

Independence Day is a day I always remember living out of the U.S.  It's also a day when I'm very thankful to be a United States citizen.

I'm fortunate enough to have been born here.  However, I just returned from two weeks in Sweden -- which is ranked #1 in the world for democracy (by The Economist) and tied for #1 for press freedom (by Reporters Without Borders).  Should be a hotbed of Liberty.  #)

It's a nice place and all, and they can run their country any way they see fit, but there's no substitute for real Liberty.  I honestly felt a weight lifted when I crossed back into American airspace.  I always do.
