Project Appleseed

We had a great experience working with 120+ cadets at our first Appleseed / CAP event. Although our time was short we were able to work with the cadets to give them instruction on how to safely handle firearms and the basics of properly firing from the prone position. These cadets were great to work with and very motivated to recieve the instruction. I think I speak for all the instructors when I say it was our honor to have been there working with them!

The instructing started at 7:30 and ended about 12:15, working in groups of 25 on the firing line, and 25 - 50 getting educated at the same time. With the quantity of cadets and the short amount of time allotted, the shooters and instructors did a good job of maintaining a safe environment. Next year we will work to get some additional time to work with the cadets and will adjust the schedule to bring an even better event to them by applying what we learned as instructors this year.

Thanks to all the volunteers who came to work the event. Thanks to all who brought LTR's for the cadets to use so there would be a semi-auto firing line. Thanks to the Rio Salado juniors program for bringing out their rifles, and thanks to the Arizona National Guard for bringing their M-16's and the M-249   that was demonstrated for the cadets by a fellow cadet   with the assistance of Sgt Martinez. We look forward to working with the CAP again in the future to bring them safe, educational, and fun shooting events.

Tees, SWAT's, an RWVA brochere and an AZ schedule of shoots were passed out at the end of the day.


After the RWVA part of the event was officially over an M-249 demo was performed. Here AZRedhawk44 gets the beta on the happenings.

Yes it was fast paced and hopefully next year we will have more time with the cadets.
