...This was a special event.. 1st, 2nd & 3rd generation Instructors all together, who all helped each other up the ranks over the last 3-4 years...

..I have worked with all of you at other times at different events, but Van Etten really feels like home and you all made me and my Family feel like Family.... The level of Respect, Trust, Generosity, & Honor that  My Family and I received seemed almost unreal, BUT it wasn't unreal.. It was real and that makes me proud to be amongst such good people.. Thank you so much for all that you(the whole dam bunch of y'all) do...

..Like Chainsaw says," The reason I fell for Appleseed is that at an Appleseed event I meet a caliber of people I did not think existed any more, but they do..........

..Allen........................Thanks..........................B9............................Thanks......................for the crashpads............................

..........Strength & Honor...........Josey Wales.......................
..to hell with them fellows, buzzards gotta eat same as worms..

First of all, I would like to Thank Imker,, aka, Allen,, for his Over the Top Hospitality for this event, The food, the camping, the lodging, my god, it just does not get any better than that,, If there is anything that I can do for you, I will be there. O0
This was a very rewarding shoot to be at, had a nice line of shooters, that were pretty tough, they were able to handle the heat we had, upper 80's, the young patriots held up well,, never complained at all, I think everyone came away with a renewed sense of patriotism, and valued skills of rifle shooting,,All of the history was Outstanding, Josey Wales with the Prelim and 1st strike, Imker with 2nd strike, Chainsaw with 3rd strike, guys my hat is off to you, job well done,, I will be looking forward to my next trip to Van Etten in August..
Our Shoot Boss, NorthBridgeWater, who actually brings water from the North Bridge to use for any 210 score riflemen earners, thats special right folks,, All History, All the time,,, Thank You,, Dave
There was a medley of rifles on the line, 10/22's, AR's, M1A's, M1's, M44 trainers as well, other bolt guns of various cals. all good to go. People really got a chance to see how things work in a tough environment, Appleseeds will put rifles through a tough test.
The after the shoot shoots were great as well, plinking steel at 500yds, standing, is fun with an M1, ask B9 about that one,, he was all smiles,,
Appleseeds do teach, what some people call the impossible, but it just turns out be the very possible, with an open mind you can learn to do anything, coming to an Appleseed, is a great start to having fun that will last forever, not to mention the friends that you will make in the process, and the exchange of information to improve your knowledge and equipment,
I'm sure I will see most of these folks again in the future, maybe at Burlington Flats in September, or next year here.. See you all soon,,

This was my first AP as an IIT, with all the red hats attending it was a great experience meeting you all and getting to learn the AP instructing format from differing views and styles. The shooters that attended all held up in the sun and heat showing a commitment to learn. Allen's hospitality opening up not only his land for the shoot but his home proves there are still good people in this nation, if you are looking for any of these good people just go to an AP you will find them.

I brought my son Eric to shoot this event; I did not tell everyone he was my son at first. I purposely worked the opposite end of the line as I want him to do his own thing.  Josey Wales, thanks for working with him and giving him a different lesson style than the one I have been teaching him over the years. He got his AQT score rather quickly the first day, after that he just worked on refining his skills matrix. He wants to pursue high power shooting, and after taking his orange hat Sunday, move along in AP and get his red hat when the time comes. For me I think I will stick around also as an ITT and get the red hat.

kDan

It was nice to shoot all day saturday and would have been nicer on a semi; that  98 beat the crap outta me - not the man I was a year ago, sheesh...  Sunday morn I laid back and played with my various projects leaving the bolty in the bag until we went KD.  No biggie right?  I pulled the wood and steel sleek and long from the case Sunday afternoon and was sitting on a 200m target waiting for the word and when it came...  "FIRE"

I dropped the hammer and my entire body fell to pieces on the ground...  Seriously I was a pile of bones.   "OUCH"   I no longer have a right shoulder.  Granted, my padded shooting jacket was in the car; I was in a t-shirt, but I was done!  No matter what! That was it!  That thing kicks like a... forget about a mule... like a bolt-action 32 caliber rifle from when men were men, not whatever the crap I happen to be!  You go shoot a k98 all day and tell us about it, macho man.  Double dog dare!  with sugar and ice cream...  mommy...

Well, I actually banged out some nice groups including a pretty good kd sitting group at 200m (score - 44), iron sights on a 60 year old rifle that was dropped in flight in the snows west of Stalingrad.  This rifle put the k in kDan.  I can still feel that steel butt plate on Tuesday night as I get ready for bed.  Nickle, can we call that  KD, cuz I bragged on the SI forum that I was gonna qually with the 98?  I don't want to have to do this again.

I kid.  I kid.  I'll put me and my 98 up against anything.  No joke.  Total confidence.  That's what AS is all about right?  Engage targets out to 500m and beyond?  Well, let's go guys.  Ain't that the next step?  You all bet on faves right?  Like the Kentucky Derby.  I have total confidence thanks to Appleseed.  Yes, it's hard to work that bolt and get it done in the time provided but I will let that whistle blow and know that each and every one of my shots is a bad a$$ mofo that I'd hate to be on the other side of.

Cheers all.  Van Etten, Memorial Day week-end is the Holy Grail for NYS instructors.  If you didn't make it, I don't know what to say.

ps - btw- in the photo of me with the 98 - I'm not clutching - I'm sitting, and we're shooting uphill; got that NPOA dialled in tight as possible.

Look at that trigger finger folks...  just look at that trigger finger...

Any questions?

I think it was the steel wool check pad that help you the most.

PS BTW... Did I mention Sgt Stoner and I were hitting steel at 500, off hand with iron sights with his Grand while you were eating leg of lamb at the house?

Oh wait, that's not a cheek pad.

NBW: This was a terrific event - my second Van Etten shoot - this is my favorite location.

Our host - Imker - provides the best hospitality. Top Notch, especially if you let him have the brass. Strangely, I can't seem to get the tune from Tin pan alley out of my head...

Imker's second strike was extraordinary. So good I plan on stealing it.

I was concerned about a couple of shooters however... First, there was a white male that drives a white van at the end of the line - he looked awfully suspicious... Second, there was a guy that looked like Fidel Castro shooting a russian capture K98. I'm wondering if we need to screen some of these shooters!

It warms my heart to see JW's whole crew out there - I think his kids are going to out-shoot us all in a couple years.

Hat's off to Sgt. Rock for leading a great job with some Sunday only shooters.

I have not hope of crediting everyone to level they deserve - I can't help but boast that this NY crew is the best and keeps growing better.

What a great weekend. To start with I would like to thank the host (Allen) for the use of his land and opening his house to prefect strangers. Its very hard theses days to find anyone who would take that chance. What a great patriot.People like that are very hard to find
thanks. You showed my kids and I that decent people still do exist, along with the rest of the instructor's there.

This was my son and I second shoot and my daughters first.
As to my son great job in getting his riflemen and taking the incentive to be an IIT.

Damn my kids are out doing me now.How bad will it be to have your own kid hand you that patch?
Hope I get it before my daughter. She's already asking on going to the next one in New Breman.

The history was a great along with those who gave it .
I believe I'll have to return to this shoot again just to see you all.

I am the witness to sgtrock and B-9 hitting the 500 yrd great shooting guys, hope I can do that someday.

B9 has good people working for him across the state. A lot of knowledge and a style to share it. Hats off to New York to another fine shoot. ..:.. ..:..

Saw in one picture Nickle out of the lawn chair, looked like he was up sharing knowledge, how unlike him. For Nickle, so much to share, so little time. ~~:) &)

The right ankle isn't so good these days, getting worse all the time.

I got my butt chewed on by the boss lady more than a few times for being up so much, in fact. Yeah, the leg swelled up about double what it should be, but, I did what I could.

And, this was probably the easiest event I've ever worked. A big staff that knew what they were doing, and me there for a little quality control and face time with a few of the newer members of the NY crowd, and revisit with some of the old hands from all over.

A good event, and the Shoot Boss kept a handle on wasted time, so we got a lot in, and all of it good.

And, Dan, I want to see a KD score from you up at Jericho. Crimminy, if that K98 kicks too much for you, I've got the VZ-24 and some Turkish Heavy Ball............or, you can shoot a lighter recoil rifle........how about the Carcano?    Just kidding, if you want to use a semi-auto, just tell me what you want to use, it can be there. You pretty well know what I've got.
They have men amongst them who know very well what they are about, having been employed as Rangers against the Indians and Canadians and this country being much covered with wood, and hilly, is very advantageous for their method of fighting. . . . ".  Lord Percy

Nickle, I appreciate the offer for the Semi-auto loaner, but I think I'll qualify on the Carcano, as soon as I heal from the 98.

And NBW; reference "Scoville"?  A definition from the internet (not to be questioned):

Scoville Heat Units are used to specify of the hotness of food, specifically CHILI peppers. In 1912, Wilbur Scoville devised a system to determine how hot foods are. He used a panel of tasters to provide heat scores for different peppers.

A panel of testers...  hmm...  anyone?  anyone?  Imker?  OneShot?  kDan is right out!  Last he was seen, he was at a Mexican restaurant in Central New York, eating a napkin while spinning around on the floor like Curly from three stooges.

hey - three stooges - Imker, Me, and OneShotZero - "What, that's hot?  It's burning your face off?  Gimme that! wuh wuh wuh wuh..."

Here's an idea for those of us that may have trouble getting worked up while telling the history...  eat a Guatemalen Insanity Pepper before you step up.   :-\ :-[ :'(
