We had a total of 9 shooters.  The weather ended up being a little warm, but was tolerable.  We are able to squeeze in 5 AQT's.  ClayM a club officer, NRA Master Rifle Instructor and member of the Presidents 100 volunteered to come out and help us instruct and decided to make it official and shoot an AQT and of course scored 242.  I saw lots of improvement with a lot of the shooters and we had a LOT of door knockers with scores in the 190's and 200's.

This was a Mini designed to tease people into wanting to come back and get some more Appleseed.

BSHRADER came and took an orange hat, jumped in and started instructing.  He is a welcome addition to the Instructor Corps in SC.

We did a good job of inviting them to forget what they know about shooting, take an engineer's approach to position building, and then employ what we were teaching them. To a person, each did this. That's why they went from 14 minutes to 8 before lunch, and then improved steadily until the 2:45 PM wall hit.
There wasn't one string during which I saw instructors disengaged. Patient, steady encouragement get results.

They got more than their fair share of history, as well. Distilled, condensed, and impassioned presentations sparked interest. I could see minds engaged as we shared what that day must have been like, and how special a nation we have been given.

As a fun shoot, we put up a 300 meter qualification target, teamed them up, and cut them loose for 45 seconds. They smoked it, and you see the grins as they realized how much they had improved from the morning's start.

I'll second Dwayne's welcome of BSHRADER.

Thanks Mr. Hogue and crew.  I have a few points for the weekend.  Let's see if I can capture everything while simultaneously chasing my 2 1/2 year old.

That was a my third Appleseed, but my first mini-Appleseed event.  You guys sure condensed it down to a great one day event.  I didn't beat my top score, but I consistently shot 210 and greater on most of my AQTs.  The AQTs I didn't score >210 on I had some FTFs and FTEs that I wasn't able to clear and get my remainder rounds off before the clock expired.  Oh, well that's just part of being a Rifleman.

I really wanted to commend you guys on doing a great job condensing the history down.  Seeing the musket, and even more the Bayonet, was definitely an eye opener.

The last Appleseed at MCRC I offered several people a rifle, mat, and everything else they would need to get them to come.  I couldn't believe I couldn't get ANYONE that had never been to an Appleseed to attend.  However, I was able to get one of my neighbors out to this event, and you guys got him knocking on the door of scoring rifleman in that one day. He is already talking about the next event and bringing his son with him.  So I consider that a success!

I downloaded some of Scout's Riflemen Radio podcasts.  The event this past weekend and listening to the podcasts this week has really awakened me even more.  I think it is about time I step up and take the orange hat.

See you on the range soon!

Yeah, I think it is time you took an orange hat.  I have all sizes and colors available as long as it comes in orange and one size fits all.

Let me know what we (me and Doug) can do to help.
