Title: First New Mexico Appleseed
Post by: SamD on September 15, 2008, 07:38:26 PM
Well New Mexico finally had out first Appleseed last Saturday and Sunday the Whittington Center in raton.
Not a huge line but a fun one and everyone learned, 2 new riflemen on board and one really new shooter rode all the way from Kansas with his grandfather to join us.  Like any new shooter he had his moments, but he was pleasure to share a range with.  I'll take him on the line next to me any day.

I believe that this is a first in another way too. First Appleseed on an NRA range. We both left a good impression on each other.   Robbie was happy to have us and we were grateful for hs efforts.
If you ever have the chance I reccomend that everyone who gets a chance stops by Whittington on their journies up and down I 25. A really beautiful facility.

Thanks to our range boss and instructors for a worthwhile experience. By the numbers.
Thank you Tom for getting it together.

Lets hope we have just as good or better turnout next month at Abq.

Sam

Great Job Sam!. I heard you guys were really roughing it there with your own personal cabins and room service... :D ;D ;D

But listen, even if you guys got free pedicures and massages, I could care less, because you brought us RIFLMEN!!!! ;D ;D

Congratulations on the First Ever New Mexico APpleseed!!!!! I wish you could see me because I am jumping up and down. We are halfway across the United States now.A solid line from Texas west to the coast. Now the push to the east is on. I have been in contact with two groups of people who might open up Louisiana with us and then Mississippi, Alabama, and we will cover the Southern Half of the U.S. from sea to sea.

Thanks for providing the missing piece in the SouthWest Sam. I will be working with you on the Abq. shoot. So let me know if there is anything you need from me and I will be sending you the contacts and info on how I am pushing the shoot. Sice there are so few of us pushing this shoot we want to make sure we are not duplicating efforts.

I am sure you saw Funfalers post on getting the word out on other gun forums. That would be the best place to start right now. I am putting the event on the GOA mass mailing service for New Mexico, Arizona, Norhern Texas and Colorado. We can get the fliers and start posting them.

I have a pet project I am pushing which concerns asking the Daughters of The AMerican Revolution to help us get the word out. You can contact the local chapter in your city and just ask then politelt if they will lend you a hand with promo since we both have a love and reverance of the Founding Fathers.

I will PM you my phone and email and address. If you need anything do not hesitate to call me and we will get it worked out pronto. Thanks Sam, and again,

                                   CONGRATULATIONS NEW MEXICO!!!!!!!!

All I did was show up and shoot(poorly but improving). Wish I'd have know about that room service, Mike and I stayed out in a tent with the bears :o

You'll have to pass the thanks and info to our State Coordinator, Tom. He's the guy that got it going adn we get him teh effort and support he needs

We'll all work to make the Abq. shoot bigger and better.  Too bad it's the same day as the El Paso Shoot , not fair making me choose between them!

Sam

You won't have to worry about that soon Sam. APpleseeds are opening up at six ranges in West Texas. And Tom is a good man and he will be making sure there will be several close by in NM also. We will work it out so no one has to drive over a couple of hundred miles to make an Applseed in any month. ;)

And we will schedule them so that you won't have to miss one if you do not want to. :) We should be able to have one APpleseed a month in West Texas by the end of this year, or the beginning of 2009.

And let's get you on the instructor schedule as soon as possible, we need you Sam :)

"And a great time was had by all!!!"

Where was this "Room Service" again? (grin)  Like Sam said we had to share the area with the bears.

I learned a great deal from three fantastic instructors and will attend the next Appleseed near me, with a Garand that will not eject the clip and live ammo when I am not expecting it to!  I passed to Tom that there is a great range (the original training range for old Camp Luna) in Las Vegas NM that can be used to have an Appleseed at.

Ciao,

Hey there BM59, I would like to ask you a big favor. Can you and Sam get with Tom and help him with the Abq. promotions? He could sure use a hand because we would like to see a big turn out for the Oct. 18-19 event there.

He volunteeered to be the Sate Coordinator and he will have a rough go of it for a while now untill we can get some more guys to help run New Mexico. You don't get a lot of help until you have a few Appleseeds to draft guys out of. I sure hope you guys are thinking about becoming instructors also. You two could be the very first instructors in the State of New Mexico.

Think of that. I can see you guys telling your great grandkids about it. "Great Grandpa, tell us again about how you and Uncle Sam were the very first APpleseed instructors in the state of New Mexico". ;D ;D

But you do not have to be an instructor to lend a hand with promotions and getting fliers out, and calling in to radio talk shows and getting the event out on gun forums etc. I think Tom is going to contact you about this and I guarentee you that you two guys will make a big difference in how the Abq. shoot turns out there. :)

Thanks for going to the shoot, and becoming better shooters, and better Americans.

Ditto on what Scout said!

First, "Congrats NM"!

Tom made the #1 and #2 NM shoot set up look easy  ;)

He can use some help in your all's corner of the "Four Corner".    He has been doing a fine job, but I am sure that he is getting lonely being the only Appleseeder "bailing" in NM.

Good to see all went well and that the seed is spreading in the Southwest!

Good job all!

Sorry I missed this shoot as it was on the same weekend as my ANG military drill. I will be at the one in ABQ for sure. I will help John set up the range as I used to work there and know the range boss there.
