ATTN ALL : SB249 CALL TO ACTION
Attention

We need everyone to reach out to All OUR SENATORS AND
ASSEMBLY and voice opposition to SB249
by phone, by e-mail, by
letter, twitter, face book, fax and, if you live in Sacramento, personal
visit.

What is SB249?

As it is currently worded SB249 will make it illegal to own an
item known as a conversion kit
which has the sole purpose of
allowing a magazine to be removed from a fixed magazine rifle with
the use of a tool. At this time the term "conversion kit" is largely
undefined and so broadly described that it includes parts
commonly found on many center fire semiautomatic rifles.
The
bill is vague enough that at this point its upper limits are unknown.
Furthermore, this bill will not provide for an Assault Weapons
Registry, or compensation for firearms or "conversion kits"
surrendered to law enforcement.

How to Help

When you contact everyone please remember the following:
1. Be Courteous - Let's make allies, not enemies.
2. Be Respectful - Just because you disagree, don't be rude.
3. Be Clear - Before contact, make a short list of talking points.
4. Be Relatable - Drop jargon (OLL, BB, C&R) and use
understandable language.
5. Be Succinct - Keep it short and sweet!
6. Be Persistent - Don't let them forget who you are! Call them
back the next week and the week after and so on!
7. Be Patient - Not everyone comes around first, second, or third try.

We need to make sure our voices are heard not just by
our fellow Second Amendment rights activists, but by our
opposition. We ask that you contact Senator Yee, the Safety
Committee, and the Appropriations Committee at least
once a day, every day.
Remember that when you contact
Senator Yee, the Safety Committee, and the Appropriations
Committee you represent us all. Use the phone, your e-mail,
Twitter, Facebook, fax, and your mail box as often as you can.

So, I was commuting right after I read this and began to think about it and I came up with some questions.

Is there any focused effort here or anyone spear heading this push? Here are some thoughts:

Do we know all our Representative's stances? Does anyone have a list of the reps who have publically already said they intend to vote this thing away?

Knowing this can help the focus of effort. The letters, calls, etc and be more focused at the opposition. I think this may be a better use of time and resources as opposed spending it on Reps that are already on the winning side of this.

So has anyone started a list like this? Can we get this list publicized so we know who are problem reps are and can assure them they won't have a future in politics if they don't represent us.

Bottom line is the individuals who oppose need to be targeted and assured that they WILL NOT be voted back into office if they choose the losing side. We just need to identify those individuals.

This "Black list" if you will IMO needs to be extended to County Sheriffs as well. Those who have a habit of not giving CCW to law abiding citizens need to understand that their job is on the line.

Last thought.....I'm sure this has been addressed....

Why is the big push to stop this bill instead of to ensure the legality of what nearly EVERY state already has. A bullet Button bill is no issue if a bullot button is not required.... While I understand that this is the latest...as AS would say "Iceberg" I think while the momentum of this thing remains we should push for the end of the Approved Handgun Roster as well as the other worthless laws.

Just a quick update, today he went for gold:

SB 249, as amended, Yee. Firearms: assault weapon conversion kits. Assault weapons.
Existing law, with certain exceptions, prohibits the possession of an assault weapon, as defined, and makes violations subject to criminal penalties. Existing law defines a firearm as an assault weapon, in part, based upon whether it has a detachable magazine.
This bill would define "detachable magazine" for this purpose to mean any ammunition feeding device that can be removed from the firearm without disassembly of the firearm action, and to include a magazine that may be detached from the firearm by depressing a button on the firearm either with the finger or by use of a tool or a bullet. The bill would declare that these amendments are declaratory of existing law, would direct the Attorney General to adopt regulations, and would make these amendments operative July 1, 2013. By expanding the definition of existing crimes, this bill would impose a state-mandated local program.
The California Constitution requires the state to reimburse local agencies and school districts for certain costs mandated by the state. Statutory provisions establish procedures for making that reimbursement.
This bill would provide that no reimbursement is required by this act for a specified reason.
